TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama outside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi received a hefty raise Tuesday, making him one of the highest-paid assistants in the country.

Entering his third season as the Crimson Tide’s outside linebackers coach, Lupoi received a $400,000 pay raise approved by the University of Alabama’s Board of Trustees compensation committee, which bumped his annual earnings to $950,000 through Feb. 29, 2020.

Lupoi’s new salary would make him the 73rd-highest paid head coach in college football, based on the USA TODAY salary database for 2016, earning more than 47 other Division I head coaches. It would also make him the 14th-highest paid assistant coach nationally.

The reasoning behind the raise is because Lupoi is one of the most highly-coveted assistants in the country. Several programs came calling to name him their defensive coordinator this offseason because of his energy and enthusiasm on and off the football field.

He’s also a tenacious recruiter, helping Alabama land players like Najee Harris, Dylan Moses, Tua Tagovailoa, Terrell Hall and Trevon Diggs as their primary recruiter the last two years.

Lupoi’s now the third-highest paid assistant on Nick Saban’s coaching staff behind the pair of coordinators. Jeremy Pruitt will earn $1.3 million this year, and his salary will increase by $100,000 the next two years. First-year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will earn $1.2 million through Feb. 29, 2020.

Below is a full list of new contracts revealed Tuesday:

Greg Byrne -- $900,000 for five years
Nick Saban -- $6.725 million through Jan. 31, 2025 ($6.9 million)
Tosh Lupoi -- $950,000 through Feb. 29, 2020 ($550,000)
Mike Locksley -- $600,000 through Feb. 28, 2019
Brian Daboll -- $1.2 million through Feb. 29, 2020
Joe Pannunzio -- $375,000 through Feb. 28, 2019
Jeremy Pruitt -- $1.3 million for 2017, $1.4 million for 2018, $1.5 million for 2019 ($1 million)
Brent Key -- $400,000 through Feb. 28, 2019 ($350,000)
Burton Burns -- $490,000 through Feb. 28, 2019 ($475,000)
Derrick Ansley -- $405,000 through Feb. 28, 2019 ($395,000)
Karl Dunbar -- $275,000 in 2017, $575,000 in 2018 ($275,000)
Scott Cochran -- $535,000 through Feb. 29, 2020 ($525,000)

Saban is getting a nice deal with Dunbar (this season at least). I hope he is O's first phone call when Jenkins retires, but I wonder if we'll pay a buyout that size for a DL coach.

He's also making more than Greg Byrne. We've got to pay him like that though to keep him around, he's a hot commodity with the way he can recruit. Somebody will give him a DC job soon in part because of that recruiting ability.

The amount all football coaches make is absurd. These guys are glorified gym teachers. But good on them I guess for finding their way.

Let me where I can find a gym teacher that runs a program that generates $100 million in revenue.

Burton Burns is underpaid. All he does is churn out Heisman contenders and bad asses at RB.
