Totally different landscape after the SECCG was introduced.
In 1972 we beat bama and had 1 SEC loss. They played an extra conference game against Vandy and "won" the conference due to higher win percentage.
Point is before 92 and even more recently nationally there are tons of examples of dubious titles and championships. It's not like we just made up some random "claim" it it is recognized by the conference. We got the trophy and Sugar Bowl berth to prove it.

And Auburn fans have long cringed about Tuberville claiming those SECW titles when we didn't go to Atlanta.

Tommie Frazier not winning the Heisman when he has a case for the best college football player of all time and put up good stats is a freaking joke-played for the National title 3 straight seasons winning 2 of them.
