Nice fail of a thread there buddy

It's strange and cool that both LSU and Mizzou both have tigers as their mascot, yet both refer to civil war battalions

When did LSU change from the bayou bengals

LSU has never been the Bayou Bengals. That's just an informal nickname that people have used. LSU has always been the Fighting Tigers, named not directly after the animal, but after the military unit, the Louisiana Tigers.

You're right, that is kind of cool. I never knew that about Missou.

Of course, ours was a real fighting unit. Theirs was apparently the town butcher and town baker who banded together to stop marauders. I'll bet our Louisiana Tigers would have kicked the Missourri Tigers' assess.

BTW funny story about Arkansas' mascot:

They used to be the Cardinals (fierce) but decided to change it to the Razorbacks because a radio announcer said they looked like razorbacks or something (I think that's right). Then, a few years later they realized there was a high school in Arkansas called the Razorbacks (Arkansas High) and... decided to sue them for copying their name. The high school realized they had the name first, so they sued them back and now every year The University of Arkansas has to give athletic equipment to the high school...

I always thought the tiger mascot was so over used and unoriginal.
What happened to the cheetahs, bobcats, leopards, pumas, linx, jaguars and other felines

You're probably right. They weren't a regular fighting unit. But Missouri, especially the "Little Dixie" area that Columbia is a part of, was a pretty violent place in those days. Our Tigers had to be ready to defend the University and the town from irregulars on both sides of the conflict. I'd bet they were pretty tough, all things considered.

You are about half right...

It was the COACH (Hugo Bezdek) who said the team "played like a wild band of razorback hogs."

Also, the University didn't start trademarking the use of the Razorback image until much later...but I don't remember exactly when. Arkansas High (like any other company using the logo at that time), was grandfathered in. There was no lawsuit brought against AHS. LINK
