What is even worse is that article describes going 9-4, finishing 3rd in the west, and losing your bowl game by 40 points as a historic season

This years Directors Cup

Bigger question is who does the most with the least. Florida and Texas A&M are both huge schools in high talent rich states with lots of money. You would expect both to finch high often.

Their respective athletic departments are neither the richest nor the most profitable though.

USAToday

As has been said before different schools practice different accounting. For instance, the LSU Athletic Department lists the annual $7.2 million it gives to the academic side as an Expense.

You did not read my post as written. I made no mention of $$$$

Read what I wrote again, and comment on that point.

I was on point. I was pointing out endowments =/= athletic revenue.

Not that big if nobody is asking it.

Thing is, there are ameliorating circumstances that make each state and each school fairly unique.

For instance, Arizona State has the largest enrollment in the country at around 100,000. Yet the Sun Devils have had less success in football the last two years than Mizzou, which has only a quarter of it's enrollment.

Texas has one of the largest endowments among public schools in the country, and the Longhorns aren't really a power in any sport anymore.

Just sayin'...

I was discussing the riches of talent in talent rich states

This has nothing to do with endowment $$$$ or athletic $$$$

I understand perfectly your point, just not sure you understand mine yet?

You did mention "lots of money"...which is where I went off from.

As far as the talent rich, both Texas A&M and Florida face a lot of competition for that talent. Both within and without the state.

Neither school was the best football team in it's home state last year. There are new challenges in rising programs in large metropolitan areas. Studies have shown that urban schools in larger metropolitan areas will be more attractive to prospective students in future years.

It's increasingly all about amenities like wi-fi, high-speed internet, and entertainment options among students.

Ah, my mistake. Did not make it more clear I meant the wealth of the states not the schools. If drug money did not hit south florida in the 80's you never see Miami rise the way it did. The FRB that handles south Florida was processing more cash for about a decade than several FRB's combined in the rest of the USA. Texas of course has oil money.

I know you think I meant something along the lines of "both our schools being urban schools in large metro areas", but I was serious about that survey regarding the wants of future college students.

Colleges are really going to have to up their game in regards to the amenities they offer students. They are already pretty choosy when it comes to things like dorms, apartments, and condos. They want and expect a long list of amenities these days gratis.

Heh, it's early for me. I've cut back on both my eating fatty foods and drinking alcohol by suggestion, and it's affecting my brain waves.

Good for you!

No like I want to do that, but I admire your effort.
