Let Cam Newton pay for the new trees. He just got a $1 million endorsement deal for using the Auburn program for one year to make himself a multi-millionaire....and he may cost them even more down the road too.

It is now up to $6000. Won't be long until there is enough to buy a new QB.

I think it is a noble gesture from the Tide fans.

So let me get this straight...these cats are sending AU whatever amount of $$ is raised, regardless of how much it actually costs to restore Toomers? That's a little much, don't ya think? Or are we now paying compensatory and punitive damages for Al?

This is a very classy gesture on the Bama fans part.

If he really killed those trees the Auburn campus is going to be pretty changed
$6K is really nothing more than a noble gesture... renovating campus landscape will chew through some money
Bama fans raising the money for this is the first adult behavior I've seen so far

I get that, but it just seems a little premature to start collecting $ when there has been (to my knowledge) no announcement of a restoration plan and cost. I think the gesture is great, but what if the Auburn plan costs $25K, and Tide for Toomer's somehow raises $50K. We just handing AU an extra $25K for their troubles?
Posted on 2/18/11 at 2:54 pm to CapstoneGrad04
more likely the bama fans will raise far less than the landscaping will cost
but in the event they raised too much it would be nice if Auburn donated the extra to a charity in the state of Alabama

There are a lot of your fellow fans that do not agree with you. I suggested having donations at our A game for them, funds that would be sent from the fans(before I knew of Tide for Toomers)and not the university. I was insulted by them saying they don't want a damn thing from us and that we would only do it for PR reasons. Why is that true? The University and the rest of us fans had no control over this guy so really there is no reason for us to have bad PR.
I was really feeling bad and wanted to mend fences, but they just want to feel sorry for themselves and play the victim. Do you have any idea how long they will whine about this? Also they want to take all news away from any investigation right now.
Bo Jackson on Jox this morning compared this as if something had happened at Mount Rushmore. I'm sorry but Toomers is a momument in Auburn, but not to the entire nation.
I hate what happened, I truly do, but they don't want our sympathy or money, and we can't undo this. I wanted to do something to help, but to have sincere motives thrown back in your face was enough for me. One of their fans(or person that says he's an Auburn fan) will do something one day that they are not exactly proud of, and we'll see how they feel.
