There are 16 FBS games this Thursday. I don’t remember there being that many before on a Thursday. Add in FCS and it goes up to 32. Most are not interesting but Penn St - Purdue and West VA - Pitt should be interesting.

Tough competition going against the NFL-TNF. If those are the two best games you found, I’ll probably watch the NFL.

edit: misread that, thought you meant for the season…….nvm, I’m going back to bed.

Conference games in week 1 are a dumb gimmick and another reason the B1G will never touch the SEC.

Also, this Thursday Mizzou will take down the Bulldogs of LA Tech in dominating fashion, in front of a national audience (ESPNU). 10s of thousands of viewers will watch in awe as a revamped Tigers team reveals its first glimpses of greatness on their way back to their rightful spot in the SEC Championship game. There are no NFL games this Thursday. NFL preseason is over.

Is Mizzou relevant again? If our new coach returns us to average LA Tech standards, watch your arse. Tech is an offensive team and always score points. Can't close out a game...but can always compete.

I don't see why it's a gimmick to start the season with games that matter.

If there was one good thing about the 2020 season it was that immediate conference intensity from day 1.

College Football on Thursday night used to be awesome. There was ONE GAME on and the whole nation was focused on it. It was an event.
Then more college teams started playing on Thursday’s and then the GREEDY NFL MUSCLED THEIR WAY IN.
Now there are games everyday of the week and yawn. It has completely lost its luster.

Obviously this Thursday is cool because there are no NFL games and the season is starting.

I hate that the Egg Bowl is on Thanksgiving night. Why, because now the NFL has the Saints - Falcons on and there are other college games on as well. Ugggghhhh.
Years back it was the only game on and again it was an event.

Yep they did beat State last year 34-14. Unfortunately for them, that was after forty-eight minutes and the game still had twelve minutes left.
State then outscored LaTech 21-0 in the next twelve minutes to come back and win but not before blocking a FG on the last play of the game to secure the win.
Mizzou should win but…..

Backyard Brawl, huge & bitter rivalry. I remember watching one of their games at a Jocks & Jills several years back. I was surprised at how many fans of both teams were there ... and they sure didn't disappoint. Security had to intervene twice, finally tossed several people

You beat Ole Miss by 16 in week 1.
Beating a team without a winning record by 3 scores is not what I define as immediate intensity.

Nobody had a winning record in week one and you might not realize it but there are 12 other sec teams that played, too.

How dumb are you?

Smart enough to realize that half of the teams in conference are below average.

My issue is with your statement regarding immediate conference intensity. UGA opened 2019 @ Vanderbilt.
I would much rather open the season with Clemson or Oregon. You know. The kind of scheduling that my AD can actually control.

What were you saying about dumb?

You'll get a lot of "conference intensity" playing an out-of-conference team.

Dang, you ARE a smart dog!

SEC used to do it too.

Ole Miss opened up the 2013 season on a Thursday night in a barnburner against a 9-win Vandy team.

There are many other examples too.

And let's look at how your AD did the 5 years prior to 2020 when you had to play lowly Vandy:

2015: Louisiana-Monroe
2016: UNC
2017: App State
2018: Austin Peay
2019: Vandy

Yeah, WAYYY better than starting to play games that actually mean something on week one. Great point.
