I guess we will have one open practice this Fall. Muschamp seems to like them to be closed to the media like Lord Saban. How bout everyone else is your fall camp open or closed and do you think it helps, hurts, or doesn't make a difference as far as team performance during the season?

All closed except for the first 10-15 minutes of each practice.

Spurrier says he doesn't mind open practices at all until they start specifically planning for a particular game. He said if the NFL guys aren't worried about open practices, why should we?

I want to say it doesn't make a difference, because I selfishly want to see all the goods, but I think it has two distinct advantages:

1) Keeps your players focused on the task at hand

2) Keeps personnel problems private (what happens at practice, stays at practice)

3) Keeps everyone from knowing Jabba the Weis coaches from a cooler.

Kiffin's spring practices, fall camp, and bye weeks were open. Game weeks have been closed for us since 2002.

Fulmer got paranoid after the 01 SECCG.

Kiffin was doing a lot of stuff to get the fanbase on his side, right up until USC called.

I think we have about 10-20 minutes of stretches and drills that are open to media and the rest is closed. As a fan, I wish it were open, but if I were a coach I would go with closed practice as well.

Auburn will have 1 open practice for the Scholarship Donors... Last year it was in JH, it used to be on the practice fields or the soccer fields (Tubs liked the soccer fields for some crazy reason).

Saban started the policy of closed practices except 20 minutes open to the media and Miles kept it at LSU. There is No good reason for practice to be open.

I like them the way they are for us.

Media gets to watch warm-ups and some preliminary drills before being ushered back into Butts-Mehre

The real craft stuff is closed, and as it should be

We had two practices that were open on Saturday. Now they finish finals and move into a hotel for two weeks, practice on a secluded intramural field, and everything is closed until a bowl practice. If that's how our coaching staff likes it, that's how I like it.

If I were a coach I would close every practice. There are just too many message board football “experts” who think they know more that the coaching staff and want to critique everything and post their ignorant opinion at every opportunity. Crap like that serves no good whatsoever and can be detrimental to the program. There’s a very good reason these “experts” are in the stands instead of on the field coaching.

feel the same... i used to go watch practice on occasion when I was in college (tubs had them open for the most part)... but after the bullsh*t in 2008 with Coleman and Ziemba fighting, and the incident with the safety from Carver/Columbus, I can see why we keep them closed.

everyone doesn't need to know what goes on.
