I just don't understand how Saban thinks it's good for his defensive backs to not play the ball the majority of the time when they most certainly should be playing the ball.

Pet peeve with him and his defensive philosophy.

This has been going on a long time now and it has cost them many times, so I'm guessing he thinks this is the way they should play. They get out positioned, man handled and well, miss golden opportunities to break up passes or make certain interceptions. Kind of hard to do when you refuse to look at the ball.

I'm not just saying some sideline routes where it can be an advantage to strictly play the receiver, I'm saying the majority of the time in coverage, especially down field more than 10 yards.

Saban would decide to retire before revamping his entire defensive schemes. Coaches his age don't want to make big changes that often. Heck, what Alabama did on offense this year was hard for him to admit that he needed to do and even then it was more of an experiment then a full blown change.

Yea, and when this really causes problems is when your DB's just have bad ball skills, which has been an issue with Alabama the past 2 seasons (though Cyrus Jones has really improved in that aspect).

Lord, save my soul - this had better not keep me out of heaven.

To win the SEC, you were beat by Ole Miss, went to OT against LSU, beat Arkansas by 1, I don't know about State, and you beat Mizzou.

I'm being honest when I say, you've had harder roads against better teams in the past. Y'all know it, and I expect that's why losing the Sugar to OSU really didn't surprise a lot of people.

Anyway - you aren't allowed to quote me on anything I've said - it's all off the record
I truly do wish you success against everyone not named Arkansas in the future

Absolutely, and this wasn't one of best 4-5 teams of the last 8 years. This team had pretty low expectations relative to the last decade of Alabama teams and they exceeded them, winning a conference title in the process. On top of that they were a great bunch of guys that seemed to give everything they had and maximized their talent.

I don't think many Alabama people are upset with them. Loss sucked, but definitely not going to melt over it.

This year, I do not think Bama had a truly elite pass rusher.
It is almost impossible to cover WRs when the QB is not under duress.

Coupled with average corners and only one elite safety, it was a weakness that was exploited at times this year.

All that being said, our defense was worse.

Is Tony Brown not developing? I thought for sure he'd be a starter by the end of the year.

This goes to the issue of younger players not getting on the field. He played some during the season and played well for a freshman, but the trust wasn't there (and almost never is) by Saban/Strong.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you probably roasted Milliner the first two years he started.
