Weren't you defending this guy as Georgia and Florida fans told you all off season that the record vs ranked teams was pretty showing that he wasn't good. At least now it's sinking in. All the talent in the World can't win unless the coach knows how. Butch doesn't. And then he basically claims moral victory post game. Wtf?!

Tennessee football may never be resurrected. A parting gift from Phil Fulmer.

But look at his background. What did y'all think you were getting?

His only stint at a P5 team prior to this one was a year as WR coach at West Virginia. Otherwise, his history has been at Wilkes, Ferris State, Central Michigan, and Cincinnatti. Hell, he played at Ferris State. He's hardly ever been in a situation in which he has not been the underdog.

And y'all thought he was going to know what to do when he righted the ship? Another example of excellent candidate vetting by the UTk Athletic Department.

I think Butch has been good for the UT program. The next coach is going to inherit a team ready to win right away. Not sure we can trust UT to make the right hire though.

Often the offensive play calling was horrifyingly conservative. No example of this is more telling than on the Vols very first drive against Oklahoma when Jones was faced with a 4th and 1 at OU’s goal line and he elected to kick a field goal. (Coincidentally, a touchdown would have won Tennessee the game in regulation) With Jalen Hurd, one of the best power running backs in America, in the backfield, UT settled for a field goal at the goal line… I don’t even want to hear the rationale there, go for the touchdown.
And when Jones was questioned about the decision at his press conference after the game, he had no remorse. Not even a “maybe we should have tried to go for it but we can’t change it now.” The decision was made so it must have been the right decision.

I heard more fury about this one call than any other.

Me when they made the call. Fans leaving the stadium. Fans eating at the Waffle House in Athens, TN on the trip home. Fans online. This call will not go away.

We were not at the 1 yard line. We were at the 1 foot line.

I would bet my house and every dime in my account that Hurd would have scored if you give him two carries at the one foot line.
