Yet this may translate into just 4 tournament teams

It's definitely a transition year, but the depth is the reason it's better. This year most of that depth is putting teams on the bubble/in the NIT. More importantly, most of those depth teams are young with talent incoming so the rational expectation is for them to take another step next year (Auburn, MSU, Alabama, Tennessee).

And considering Kentucky is pretty average, I'm not sure what to think about this overall.

Well, relative to historical Kentucky they may be average. They are ranked 3rd by KenPom (4th offense, 12th defense).

And we will have 1 team make it past the second round of the tourney.
I see a lot of NIT teams this year.

This
UK, UF and USCe are all very much in, Arkansas I'd put in for now but who knows what they finish up like. One night go on road to get a good win @ Vandy, the next lose by 30 to a bad OK ST team.

They are 3-6 in the Big 12, not a bad "Team" (certainly not like Mizzou) but bad for them.
A 30 point loss is embarrassing either way

Sure but bad is a horrible way of describing Ok ST., they are in most tournament projections at the moment. Medicore maybe, but bad, come on man
We have actually been better on the road is SEC play than at home so far.

I mean, Arkansas probably drives their fans like rock crazy, but they are 16-5 and have an RPI of 28.
They'd have to fall apart down the stretch not to get in.

They will probably be 3-8 in the Big 12 after their next 2 games. RPI looks good but that's about it for them at the moment. Some years the Big 12 sneaks a team or 2 in with a losing conference record, but OK ST will have to really turn it up to close out if they want in the NCAAT (Assuming they lose these next 2).

Pretty much, the main issue that I have seen is there is no great win. We have some solid wins but nothing great. We will get at least two more chances at that and if we win at least one than I will feel fairly good about this team. I expected the Ok St. loss, not by 30 but not shocked by it either.

Agreed, but they will have a few more chances to get very good wins. The only thing that really hurt us about that loss was the eye test.
