This is coming from Chip Brown, so it's probably wrong...

...but Chip reports that Chris Del Conte says A&M and Texas will play every year (also says that he wants to play on Thanksgiving, which I'm not a fan of, but that's not the important part).

X (Twitter)

If "Del" is correct, that seems to indicate that we are, in fact, going to the 9 game, 3/6 schedule, because A&M and Texas will not play annually in the 8 game, 1/7 set up. Maybe he's just whistling Dixie, or maybe it's meaningful, I don't know.

8 games doesn’t require a 7/1 for everyone. SEC didn’t bring Texas in to not have them play TAMU every year.

It could mean 3/6 or it could be variations on the Flex protect concept- could still be 8 games or even moved to 9 with that concept.

Everyone has been mum on the schedule possibilities for a while now.

Going to some kind of "flex" schedule, where you have no idea who you will be playing from one year to the next out of your rotating opponents, would suck. I hate that concept. I say the same thing about having 2 permanent opponents in baseball. Give me 3/6 or give me a new commissioner. Get it done Sankey.

I still maintain that the only reason they went to a bridge schedule for this year is because they were anticipating a further round of expansion in the near future. If they are starting to finalize things, then maybe that means that expansion isn't going to happen the way they thought it might.

But yes, the 3/6 scheduling model is the only thing that makes any sense.

As they should, so that Arkansas/LSU can go back to Black Friday.

I'm agnostic on the question of who we play the final weekend, but I don't want to play Thursday or Friday, regardless of the opponent. That's one point where I agree with LSU fans.

Could be like WWE and we don't even know who we're playing that day until they come out of the tunnel

All you need to know is that when a Texas Longhorn Athletic Director speaks, or any Longhorn for that matter, you sit down, stfu, and pay attention.

Absolutely. Looking forward to renewing the game on an annual basis. Thanksgiving is fine with me as well.

You're going to realize that's no longer the case.

Most people down here do not want to play any game on Black Friday.

Does Auburn get LSU in a 3/6 model?

Crazy thought, but I’m suspicious now. Don’t they have LSU vs OU thanksgiving week in next years schedule? Maybe they are transitioning OU to be LSU’s one (in a 1-7 format) if we don’t go to a 3 - 6. I don’t think we will go to a 3 - 6 until ESPN pays, bc we aren’t going to give them an extra game for free so we can accommodate a team that wants 2 permanent rivals. Overall, I expect A&M to play tu every other year until the new TV contract is up.
