I like Tuscaloosa. The old style of downtown reminds me of a much larger Hammond, LA, where I lived for a while. Campus is beautiful. My in-laws live on Lake Tuscaloosa, which is great. The bar scene is very good as well.

I'll have to read that. Only source that I'm aware of that disputes the bear story or the UGA and Butts allegations.

ETA: if they are in this book.

Birmingham-Tuscaloosa is what BR-Hammond would be if LSU was in Hammond.

BDS is also a fantastic venue. You won't find a nicer stadium that large (except Jerry World) and that loud. The atmosphere is great, and everything to do pregame is right outside the stadium. There are several SEC schools who offer up a fantastic game day experience, and Bama is one of them. Not sure why would anyone would trash it.

Pretty fair comparison. I loved Hammond, but I might be in the minority there.

it's an excellent book.

it doesn't really "dispute" the Bear's story per se, but the facts are what they are and there's no denying that bear got information about UGA from Butts.

It also singles out, in Bear's mind, Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU as Alabama's 3 rivals

2011 is still top 2-3 stadium environments I've experienced. I was basically on the field, which helped, but damn that place was rocking for 4 hours. Tailgating is also top notch.

After living in Louisiana for so long now no question LSU is number 2 on my personal rivalry list right behind Auburn and well ahead of Tennessee.

Getting information doesn't mean the two conspired to fix the game.

As good of a book as it is, it's written from the perspective of a bama homer, which is even funnier because it also, at the very end, takes a not so subtle jab at Nick Saban for how he handles leaving LSU for the Dolphins (it was published in 2005 iirc) and basically says Bear never would have handled his business that way

There's a new restaurant named "New Orleans Fryhouse" on Temerson Square. Haven't tried it yet, but I hear it's good.

Try Southern Ale House
