Posey left the team a year and a half ago. Blair has lost a lot of weight since the spring and looks like a completely different player. He will pass Gilliam soon. You for RS JR Marcus Jackson who was a 4* from Miami and will be LG.

I agree with the other posters ITT. We will be stout on the interior OL but the tackles are a huge question mark right now.

And Hurd has been impressive as hell. He's practically splitting 1st team reps 50/50 with Marlin Lane already. His only weakness was pass protection and reportedly, he has improved a lot there since fall camp started. I think Hurd will get 150+ carries this year unless Lane comes out of no where with a Montario Hardesty-esque senior season.

The fact that we are even talking about Gilliam perhaps starting, and playing significantly in the SEC as a walk-on, pretty much sums up the story for UT on the offensive line.

They might be OK in the middle, and I mean OK, not great, but OK, but they are going to have trouble all year at tackle, especially if they have any injuries whatsoever.

Don't you have a walk on starting at tackle in Jacob Gilliam? Or did the Juco or the true freshman claim the #1 spot? I know UT fans LOVE to hate on that OL from last year, but the problem wasn't the line. It was the QBs and WRs. The line kept you from losing every game UT played last year.

They only gave up 23 sacks in TWO YEARS, and averaged 5 YPC in 2013 (with no passing game to help out) against a tough schedule.

Tennessee is going to have a drop off at that position. NO QUESTION.

Gilliam still has the 1 spot right now. He was given a scholly this spring and is a 5th year senior. Blair though looks to be in the shape he needs to be to take his spot but so far Gilliam has just been a darn good practice player and is really making Blair work for the spot. I expect they both play and that Blair will be the starter sooner rather than later.

As to last years line... people complain about it because compared to their sophomore and junior years that line didn't live up to the bar they set. They were a passing line and while they got a lot better at run blocking last year, they couldn't push for a yard to save their lives last year. LOT's of errors post-Bama game that killed scoring drives were the fault of Tiny's false starts or the line making a mistake. What we didn't know (and still few realize) is how badly beat up they were at the time, especially Tiny. Depth and injuries took their toll big time on the line as a whole but no one was gonna talk about that when all those guys were headed for the NFL when the season ended.

In retrospect, they underperformed last year but it wasn't their fault they underperformed - they were just beat up, exhausted and injured. That doesn't mean they were a bad line but rather they didn't compare to their own sophomore and junior seasons.

Not true. They will struggle is pass pro, but they are very physical in the run game.

LG Marcus Jackson, C Mack Crowder, and RG Kyler Kerbyson have been in the program for 4 years and have plenty of talent and experience.
Both OGs had offers from the top schools in the country.

OTs are a concern.

UT is probably better than maybe, one team in the conference on the OL. And that is Kentucky. And it is debatable.

They can't afford ANY injuries, at ALL.

I agree that Hurd will be good, but when you consider that UT is going to struggle again at QB, and at both tackle positions, that spells danger for the passing game.

The running game could be OK.

From Guard to Guard, UT's OL is very good. Tackles are huge question marks. Question marks doesn't automatically equate to the 2nd worst OL in the conference. The 5 guys we are replacing are all on NFL rosters right now.

We will know a lot more after weeks 1, 2, and 3.

Jashon Robertson has been moved to Oline. Also, Michael Sawyers is getting looks at Oline as well. They were both highly recruited guys.

I would look for both to get a lot of playing time this year

This would be a terrible decision, if true. I love Sawyers' potential at DT.

If you like a 6'3" guy that runs upright and think he will excell ala an Eddie George, ok, I see it. But is he really an Eddie George? Most RB's that tall do not work out. maybe Hurd does it, maybe not, time will tell.
