I think they wear them as a psychological factor. They try to make themselves look as un-athletic as you possibly can in order to surprise your opponent when you can actually play the game.
Wear what you want. I don't care for them.

There is nothing in baseball I despise more than seeing a flatbill. They should just leave the fricking stickers and price tag on them while they are at it.
But they look so cool when they're worn sideways or crooked!

(Okay, so it's a little bent, and not perfectly flat...)

I agree completely. A hat's purpose is to block the sun. With the bill so high and flat it does not meet is full sun blocking potential and it looks stupid as frick.

So why no bitching because all of the players wear a cuff at the bottom of the ankles instead of the "traditional" stocking straps on the side with the pant cuffed at the knee?
Don't get me started on that. I would love to just witness the ole stirrups every game. I like the look. Don't mind the pants down to the shoes, mainly because it doesn't look gangsta

You talking about this kind of flat bill? This is technically flat.

You have "flat bills" with the stickers on them, all bulky up top, etc.. that are terrible.
But I wear a ball cap almost daily that is kinda flat. It's slightly bent. But I took a knife to all the "netting" stuff on the inside, then I showered in it so it molded to my head.
There's a BIG difference.

quote:Most LHP's wear their hat skewed during late day games because of the sun's angle. Purke kind of takes it to an extreme, but there is reason for it.
As for flat bills in general it's mostly done so the players can comfortably wear sunglasses. The dimensions of a baseball hat are a lot different than one you'd wear fishing.

quote:Interesting if true, but I don't recall ever seeing another college LHP with his hat angled like that (or even less than Purke). I've watched a hell of a lot of baseball for the last 20 years, and I think I would've noticed.
