Not having LSU + BAMA undefeated every November does not = a down year for the SEC.

Yes there are other good teams in other conferences...namely Clemson and Oregon.
But any other reference to "it's a down year" is usually an excuse to justify a rival being successful in the conference or to justify their own record with a loss(es).

2004, 2007, 2010...blah blah blah
THe SEC has been the strongest conference year in and year out for damn near a decade now.

EDIT: To clarify, 2004, 07, 10 and this year are all years I have heard and read "the SEC is down".
THis isn't a dig on any particular team...it's just that I've been reading it consistently on here lately about this year and it reminds me of every other year a school runs the gauntlet or does very well other than bama or LSU.
I was using AU's undefeated years as an example of when that kind of talk surfaced and 07 when LSU won a BCSNCG despite 2 losses.

When AU went defeated in 2010 it was partially bc the "SEC was down"

same as in 2004

Correct and you will constantly see in comments referring to their run that (other than Newton's obvious contributions) it was a down year in the SEC that allowed them to run the gauntlet

Dude, look at the number of players that went pro early last year in SEC. Think it was the largest number ever. Especially on defense.

2004 Auburn beat some really good SEC teams. 2010 did too, and then they beat the best team from the other conferences.

I wouldn't say 2010 Auburn was an elite all time team, but that said, the idea of Newton losing a game that year is hard to imagine too.

This is dumb trolling, though I agree the SEC isn't down just because they have teams to knock off the top teams.

Just because nobody agrees with your dumb reasoning doesn't mean we're missing the point. The point was horribly made.

Your kidding right? 2010 was probably the best year and most toughest in the history of the SEC from a coaching standpoint.
Here were some of the coaches that year in the SEC:

South Carolina - Spurrier
Florida - Urban Meyer
Georgia - Mark Richt
Alabama - Nick Saban
Arkansas - Bobby Petrino
Auburn - Gus Malzhan
LSU - Les Miles
Miss State - Mullen
Ole Miss - Houston Nutt
