The "O" is actually not silent. "Possum" is a colloquialism derived from a similarly named animal from Australia.

Yeah. I heard that 99.994% of all people born in Louisiana were world class cooks. I think a LSU fan told me that and I believe him. I can't imagine the talent it takes to barely burn water and flour.

Why would LA folks being good cooks make me miserable?
I don't enjoy roux based dishes that much and fried seafood on a french roll doesn't do it for me.
I just find it quirky that LA folks claim to be great cooks all the time like they own that market.
