Man...y'all so damn young. I was 15 in 1962 and it was the age of change and even though peaceful race protests ended up with redneck police beating the crap out of them...the end result was the nation watching the evening news and seeing how brutal police and southern hate was.
But the 1960s saw so many changes and music was really turned on in the mid 60s. The climate was one of optimistic hope and the future was bright.
Johnny Vaught was a legend and always had Ole Miss in the hunt for the SEC title....which wasnt a big deal back then...the NC was vague and subject to media appeal, which loved Notre Dame, Michigan, USC & Ohio ST, Penn State. Texas & OU were also heavy favorites. You could go undefeated and a 1 loss team might get the AP votes, just the way it was. Teams were lucky to be on national TV once a year and Ole Miss was hardly ever on TV unless it was a bowl game...back then SEC teams played each other in bowls a lot.
