Miles has not had a legitimate offensive coordinator ever since losing Gary Crowton, and it caught up with him in 2011.
Now that Cam Cameron has joined Miles, LSU now has the best coaching staff in its history, and is every bit the match for Saban's Crimson Tide.
When Saban prepares for LSU in the future, he will match wits with probably the best offensive mind in the history of the SEC in Cam Cameron. Miles already has the defensive side of the ball well taken care of by John Chavis and his defense. In the future, Miles will be able to direct his full attention to the overall management of the team as H.C.
In addition to that, Cameron will attract a higher level of talent for the entire offense and especially at QB, which has been the achilles heel of the offense for years.
This shite again, I can't wait to see this high octane LSU offense. They're a complete team now huh? Several things in your post don't make sense but you already knew that...

Not gonna lie, LSU actually having an offense scares me. If Mett actually adjusts, they will be dangerous. I just don't think Mett was consistent enough last year to make me believe he can put it together for 12 consecutive games this year. Can he? Absolutely, he is super talented, but I don't know if he will.
It didn't really help him much that we had no deep threat and the offensive line was a new hodge-podge every week.

Iunno. Mett had plenty of deep balls he could have connected on during the A&M game and simply missed. I think he was under 40% passing that game. Was that anomaly? That is likely, he seemed to turn it on after that... but I don't think it is unreasonable to think he will have an iffy game or two, especially given the tough schedule he has. I mean it is also incredibly likely that LSU could center around the running game and give Mett and AJ type bus driver role, but I don't think Cam Cameron is like that. It will be Mett or bust, imo.

Mett had a disturbingly large number of tipped balls for a guy that's 6'5", but we really missed Reuben Randle more than any other player from 2011.
Cam is good with quarterbacks, I'm optimistic.

What's more interesting is what comes after Mett. By all accounts, it looks like the true freshman Anthony Jennings will take the place of Rivers at 2nd string. After that, we've got Rettig.
This is the most talent LSU has had at the position since 2006, when we had Russell, Flynn, and Perrilloux. One of these guys may ultimately get frustrated and transfer out. If that happens, I kinda hope it's Rivers.

quote:Same as with Pease’s new offense at Florida, no way Cameron gets his full offense implemented next year. I expect it will take at least two full years before the timing among the players starts to click fully for both QB and WRs. By the middle of the third season, the fireworks should fully bloom.

However, Mettenberger's strong arm should stretch the field for some nice bombs, which should help open up the running game next year.
Come to think of it, next year will be Pease’s second year at Florida; should be interesting to see what the Gators can do on offense next year. I don’t know if they have the right type of athletic QB yet for the Boise St. offense to click on full cylinders.

That was allready discussed before I posted what I did about bama in '12. OK?
Posted on 5/4/13 at 9:56 pm to nc14
Totally shut down bama's "regular base offense". You know anything not two minute offense, before half or end of game.
Did a little more research and the numbers I posted were a LITTLE off. bama had even less yards with one more turnover and one more possession.

Mett is a statue in the pocket, that's been his biggest problem is he doesn't even try to scramble and has little feel for where pressure is coming from.
Back to the OP. While Saban is changing some of his focus on the recruiting front, if he goes smaller and faster you open yourself up to the run more, there is no way around it. Now he can scheme to cover that up but you can't be a perfect defense to everyone.

That's just it though, we're not exactly going all that much smaller. I mean, look at the 2011 line.
Chapman - 315lbs
Jesse - 318lbs
Square - 280lbs
Now look at the line this year
Ivory - 305lbs
Pagan - 290lbs
Stinson - 290lbs
We're getting a little smaller, but a lot more athletic, and then we still have beasts at ILB. Not counting Tana because he's a fifth year senior, after CJ is gone we should still have at least three guys who should be ILB studs.
Trey DePriest - Listed at 6'2" 248, probably 6'0" tall in reality, but still a thumper who can cover well.
Reggie Ragland - I believe we list him at 6'2" 257, and I think that's pretty accurate.
Reuben Foster - Gotta get him on campus, but he looks around 6'0" 250.
So still big, tough ILB, but also some very athletic guys. And I mean our Sam backer spot keeps getting bigger and more talented, but the Jack spot gets more athletic as time goes on.

The thing is the OP said saban was developing two different front seven's depending on type of offense bama was facing.
Granted some of the players would start nomatter the opponent. But, he said saban was going to have a "smaller quicker" front seven for spread no huddle offenses.
He even listed a few that you don't have on your list.
To me the thing is. saban will have limited options and the same guys will play nomatter the opponent. Different guys might start against different opponents but, basically the same 12 or so players will see snaps every game.

I don't follow Bama too closely. But UGA has put together about 20 different starting lineups the past 2 seasons on defense. There's always a wrinkle. There's always a specialization (sometimes, there's an injury or suspension).
I don't know if Bama does this regularly in the past. But it shouldn't be a shock to see it going forward.

The spread hurry up offense is not the problem. Ball control by Bama on offense is the problem.
Teams with the best defenses like Florida and LSU are Saban's biggest problem, and their new offensive schemes are what will keep Saban up all night.
The immediate challange for both new offensive coordinators at both Florida and LSU is to match their offense to the players they have to work with, and the later challange is to recruit the type of players they would like to run their offenses with.
Cameron seems to be trying to load up with TEs that can run and catch for the NFL's Twin TE Packages that are all the new rage in the pros.
Florida began installing the Boise St. offense last year and LSU will be installing Cameron's version of the Air Coryell Offense this year. While these newly installed attacks won't be running on all cylinders this year, they will be in the very near future.
