Not sure if this has been discussed but definitely something worth looking into.

It has been discussed weekly and it’s still not moving from Atlanta

I’m just not sure why there are 2 threads on this when the game is locked through the 2026 season with 2 consecutive 5 year extensions available. The game will not move.

Just to give you some insight to the airports limitations? The Nashville airport has 40 gates. The Atlanta airport has 34 gates on each concourse of which there is "A", "B", "C", "D" and then the International Concourse.

The airport is not big enough, so be ready to drive.

So MSY can handle this type of traffic (and has dozens of times) but BNA can't? Both airports serve roughly the same amount of passengers on an annual basis. ATL is the busiest airport, but you don't have to have a major hub to handle SEC champ games lol.

It's not about the number of passengers that fly under normal circumstances. It is more about how many additional flights that can be allowed to maximize the flight slots. Slots are limited according to FAA capabilities, gates and many, many other factors. I worked in the airline industry for 33 1/2 years. (30 years at the Atlanta airport)

Depends on how many passengers you want to add to the mix. Atlanta is not at full capacity. (Or it wasn't a few years ago) They can easily add additional flights due to flight slots being available. (Admittedly that might have changed in recent years. People don't realize you can't just add flights and bring extra people in. (And by the way....New Orleans also has Baton Rouge nearby that can (and does) absorb some traffic. I worked at the Baton Rouge airport for 3 1/2 years.

ETA
Again. If the consensus among the SEC is to move, then move. But for fans to think the stadium is going to sit empty during conference championship week 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 5 years is not correct. The ACC would come fill the void and the stadium would be rented out every year not to mention the city of Atalanta would gain untold millions in visitor revenue by way of restaurants, hotels and sites and rental cars.

When’s the last time you have been in the dome? They just spend half a billion renovating it.

Along with the league office. better airport, well vs Birmingham better everything really.

But wait, there will be a push to move this game to Dallas soon enough.

MAYBE...just MAYBE, we should check the number of staff/refs that went to school in ALABAMA...just to be somewhat 'fair'...lol

Well that would be retarded. The only people that want the game in “Dallas” either a) live nearby or b) have never been to a game there and therefore don’t understand how bad jerryworld sucks as a location for CFB

Well with it being played in December, how about Tampa? It's good enough for the Super Bowl.

Personally during the holidays, it would be easier on my schedule if it was either Dallas or Miami. TIA if Florida ever makes it back to the damn game.

Nashville has a higher violent crime rate than Atlanta. It’s 1/3 the size, it has far more limited flight options. Fewer restaurants and hotels. It’s only substantially closer for UT, Missouri, Vandy, & Kentucky who have collectively been to the SECC 6 times in 30 years. It’s farther for AL, AU, UGA, LSU, & Florida who have been 48 times collectively.

It’s almost as bad as the league office being in Birmingham.. this is something that has to be rotated every year. Atlanta, New Orleans, Nashville, Biloxi would all be viable options as far as distance for teams. Not sure if this has been discussed but definitely something worth looking into.

By your logic, it is unfair that every single (with one single solitary exception in 2021) playoff game and New Years Six bowls is below the Mason Dixon Line. Other than that one championship game in Indianapolis (coincidentally home of the NCAA), has there ever been a championship, playoff or Big 6 game played in above the MDL in the last 30 years??? You going whine that these important bowl games should be evenly distributed throughout the US to make things fair for the Big 10? Haven't seen LSU fans advocating for things being fair in that way.

Why would it ever move from ATL??

It has to be in a domed stadium.
Atlanta is easy to get to by air and highways, three interstates go through Atlanta. Plenty of hotel rooms and restaurants.

The ACC would jump at Atlanta in a heartbeat if the SEC ever let it go.
The ACC plays outdoors and that game has had some miserable weather over the years.

LSU, sans one game, has certainly been content and considered it OK to play SEC championship games in Atlanta.

Fixed.

I don't know why LSU fans are bitching, LSU has the best winning percentage in the SECCG, including 3 wins over the 'home' team, UGA. Atlanta's been pretty good to the Tigers, don't change it.
