We need to go to divisional play to determine the east and west champion. Let's face it LSU did all they could to make this game happen, and Florida bitched out, because they didn't want to lose a second SEC game. Therefore the only fair thing to do would be to pick the team with the best divisional record. This way Tennessee doesn't get punished for Florida's incompetence and LSU doesn't have to give up a home game. Just cancel this game entirely and make the gators suffer for being bitches and pussing out of key SEC games.

The easy answer is to not play it because it won't matter

Only if we retroactively get a share of the 2011 East division title. Thanks.

Steve Spurrier has been saying this for years. In this instance this solution seems like the simplest and most logical one.

Once again, the need for a point system appears.

Divisional win = 1 pt.

Cross-divisional win = .5 pt.

If Tennessee finishes 6-2 = 6 pts.

If Florida finishes 6-1 = 6 pts.

Tennessee wins tiebreaker and goes to SECCG.

ETA: This, of course, would've benefited South Carolina in 2011, and that's why I advocate for it.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with this.

The rules are the rules

They can change the rules for next season if they want to fix this

Not going to happen this year

This is the easiest way to fix it if they don't play.

I halfway expect them to do this, or make it best of however many games are played by the team with less games (i.e. Florida only plays 7 games, only take UT's 7 best into consideration). That's the mathematical way to fix it.

The rules also state that teams are to play 8 conference games and that commissioners and presidents can figure things out if things get odd. The rules are ambiguous at this point.

No need to change the rules for an anomaly.

While maybe on a technicality that is true everyone I have heard on the issue says that in this scenario Florida will be going to Atlanta.

Which is why the need to get the game played

While I agree with that statement, ever since 2011 I've been in favor of divisional records deciding division standings.

Only since 2011 though.

I dissagree. The rules are specific using winning percentage first. You don't need winning percentage if everone plays the same # of games. That rule captured this possibility already.

Both are based on technicalities. League says you must play 8 games, league says that champions are based on percentages. Florida hiding behind a hurricane to benefit is unprecedented.

It should be changed though, if you beat everyone in your division you should be the division representative, not someone you beat but had easier cross divisional matchups that year.

There's no answer because there's no question.

There's no question because there's no LSU/UF game.

The end.
