The real phenomenon to me was how women started wearing it. Way back in the day, you'd see a guy wearing just the hat. Now, women wear just about anything with it, and all kinds of accessories. When did it explode among women?

You do realize houndstooth was a pattern before Bear Bryant, right?

DI'd you think Burberry started in 2000?

Agreed. I hate the houndstooth. It isn't even the kind of hat bear wore

Alabama has the highest percentage of rich dog dentists and toothless canines in the world. And all in Gulf Shores. Amazing.

Those caps were HUGE when they first came out. I made money selling a few, before they hit the local stores.

I, for one, don't do the houndstooth stuff.

Coach Bryant wore checkered plaid hats most of the time anyway.

I had one of the original hats that were given away at the stadium (I was a freshman). I remember that Nike didn't plan on selling any of them, but there was such a huge demand in the weeks after the game that they finally decided to make more.

i'm not sure where y'all was prior to '06, but houndstooth was way far along before that. that commemorative in 06 was in response to the high usage of houndstooth by bama fans, errwhare

People wore houndstooth before then, but it grew exponentially after 2006.

Yea there was some here and there (those ugly arse UAB girls for one), but the Houndstooth thing didn't blow up until after that game.

Worst thing ever.

To counter, Ole Miss will be honoring the 20o3 Sec West Division co-champs who watched LSU win the national title.

Yea - I was a junior in 2006. That game was f'in awful. Man, we sucked balls.

That was one of the many "wins" that walking back to the fraternity house felt like a loss during the incredible Shula era.

Not true but you know that. The popularity of the pattern drove the idea and not vice versa. A popular bar come to mind?
