I listened briefly the other day and majority of the callers are 60+ year old rednecks calling to praise and flirt with Paul. Then they go into a long winded personal story about how they cut Paul Bear Bryant’s cousin’s yard one time.
The rest are the usual callers that do their pro wrestling bits and brag about how they really “bring it.”
It’s awful.

it was so funny the few times in 2019 when I saw him on the SEC-Network ,Gameday, etc when LSU was on its run. The man, forwhatever reason, has always hated LSU. When LSU would come up on the show he looked like some poor hostage being forced to denounce his country. "LSU is a very good team," blank face,no expression." "Joe Burrow is a good QB." blank face,no expression.
Now he is back to what a terrible program LSU is how overrated it is historically.

Can't believe we all agree on this. Finebaum is a Bama but kisser, and most of his callers are Bama idiots.
He spreads false narratives as much as he can. But really only if they support Bama.
Occassionally, he has some good guests and some good points. But most of the time he is pushing false narratives, and his "paid callers" are just jibberish.
The show is fake. The paid callers have their scripts. Finebaum's narratives are typically biased. Its the old WWE.

Lots of sports "talking heads" have absolutely no idea how the games truly break down.
Greg McElroy is the most surprising to me. He won a state championship, a natty and played in the NFL and can't decipher I/Z from pwr and ctr.

Why would anyone listen to Finebaum or watch ESPN?

Very true, I just can't stand when he gets on his high horse and acts like he is better than the callers.. The callers are the ones who got you that big ESPN contract

I think he is remarkably nice to many callers. But if they say stupid things he jumps on them with sarcasm. He is in the liberated position now where he can drop his "truth bombs" without fear. He is no analyst. He reports on the behind the scenes happenings in the SECin the same manner as there is reporting on the celebrities on the red carpet.

Your take is pretty spot on. I was living in Birmingham in the early 90's. I had met Finebaum, when he was on the Mark and Brian show and he was better known as a writer for the Post Herald. In 84 he was famous for pissing off Bama fans and hating on Ray Perkins. A high school friend of mine who became a sports writer for the Huntsville Times, knew Bill Lumpkin and invited me to lunch. Finebaum joined us and he seemed very feminine to me. I was talking to him about Coach Dye and he said he liked him, but that he thought Ray Perkins was a much better coach. He had written an article the week before, when Bama had an open date, he picked open to win by 3. (This was Bama's 5-6 season when they lost to Vandy) I was under the impression he hated Perkins. But he spoke very highly of him that day. The very next day he was in the paper criticizing him. I got the impression that he knew that was what sold papers. Later in 1990 my brother owned a construction/ Glass company and he had contracts with many apartment complexes. Andy Kennedy lived in an apartment complex on Valley Ave and I was working for my brother doing some tile work in his apartment. Paul was there with coach Bartow,I got to talking to him and got the impression he wasn't really a sports guy. he just like to stir things up. If I can admire him for anything, it is he knew how to market himself. I stopped listening years ago. Whenever I see him on tv as "College football expert" I just shake my head. I know that Matt Coulter and John Pruitt absolutely hated him and thought he was what's wrong with journalism. He just sensationalized crap whenever he could. He made a nice career for himself, good for him. But I do not like him at all.
(He did however know a lot about politics. I had never heard of Bill Clinton in those days but Paul said I should read about him. He said he might be President one day.)

Wasn't it the Auburn idiots that made him popular? I thought he railed on the Tide when Auburn was good

Anyone who needs an 'analyst' to explain to them what they are watching needs to follow a different sport. I wish the networks would offer an alternate audio feed with only the stadium sound so we wouldn't have to endure these talking heads.
Idk, man. analysts and proper play by play announcers do a LOT to constantly educate us fans. and not all fans have been watching for 10-15 years or more. most fans don't have the foggiest concept of exactly how strategic the game is whatsoever.

That's the one and only reason any of us should ever watch ESPN. Don't watch their talk shows. Don't watch their pregame shows. Don't tolerate their BS and give them ratings.

Bro his whole show is about manipulating your feelings, ignore the rat fricker.

Yep, my brother-in-law was a professional linebacker for a team in Dallas. When Romo was predicting plays, for my brother in law that was nothing unusual.
My brother-in-law knew almost all of the plays before they happened, and all of the coverages and defensive alignments.
He would look at the guards and their stances sometimes, or the running backs and how they were aligned. Really 98% of fans are idiots is the truth. Finebaum is around the 70% percentile, but still well in the idiot category.
the game is incredibly deep, and the nuances and details of the game are missed by almost all fans.
