The Chief Speaks

quote:

"I guarantee our LB play is going to be better".

"I guarantee our run defense is going to be a lot better."

Chavis likes his group of linebackers

quote:

“D.J. gives our defense a little bit of that calming effect,” Chavis said. “He knows the calls, and he knows how to get people lined up…I’m excited about D.J. and think he brings a lot to the table. “But again, he knows as well, that he’s going to have to be on top of his game, and he’s going to have to perform at a high level every single day. He went into spring practice with that kind of attitude, and to be quite honest, he had one of the better spring practices that I have been around.”

Who are the linebackers going to be?

All of A&M's starters were injured last year and 2 played in less than 1 game last year.

Otaro Alaka and Josh Walker should be back and Shaan Washington is healthier than last year. 2014 starter, Jordan Mastrogiovani, is also walking back onto the team after retiring for a year.

Claude George (JUCO), Richard Moore, Riley Garner, and Landis Durham were all rushed into the lineup last year, but at least they have some experience.

A&M is also excited about Tennessee's best high school player (T. Dodson) and the possibility of an Under Armour All-American (Aaron Hansford) playing a little LB too, but Hansford is supposed to start out at HB.

What do you expect him to say? I hope we are better?

Richard Moore is the dude that flew around and clocked people right? He should be the starting mike.

He didn't have to make guarantees.

Otaro is not a Mike. Chavis mentioned Josh Walker (4* recruit/ 6'1" 240 lbs.) and moving Claude George to Mike full-time (6'2" 230 lbs.).

The Chief also said that Jim Turner is the BEST Offensive Line coach he has ever seen. Said this offensive line is blocking with at least 50% more power than last year's just based on technique.

Sounds like you are new to Coach speak.

Hint: Every coach thinks they have the best players and coaches. I would be concerned if Chavis didn't think this...

So, what I am gathering is...we should take a wait and see approach and not jump to conclusions...

The only thing I will say is that I am excited at the possibility of Otaro Alaka returning to form this year.
If he stays healthy, he can really improve the LB play.

Hint: This isn't just Coach, speech. This isn't Turner's first time at A&M.

He recruited and trained the A&M OL 1st round draft picks: Jake Matthews, Luke Joeckel, and Cedric Ogbeuhi

He recruited and evaluated 1st round picks: Germain Ifedi and Mike Evans (WR).

Shut up.

We want to stay under the radar so the talking heads obsessing over twitter are exposed as fools.
