The Best Thing About SEC Football is Bama

After a few years in the SEC it is now obvious to me the best thing about SEC football is Bama. More specifically when my team tanks at the end of the year Bama gives me someone to root for the in playoffs that doesn't make me feel bad about doing it. Quite the opposite in fact- another Bama national title allows me to pretend that eight wins is not bad because the SEC is top dog. They are an ego boost to the entire conference.

In the Big 12 I really couldn't do that. Except for maybe Kansas St every half decent program in the Big 12 winning a national title that year would be a disaster in recruiting for my program. I had to root against the Big 12 every year at the end of the year and I hate to live a hater's life.

But does anyone really think if Bama wins ANOTHER national title their recruiting or brand can get better? Nope, it is just another log on a big pile. So they can be my "second team" without any guilt.

In fact I don't even mind Bama taking Texas recruits because unlike other top programs that steal our recruits Bama spits a decent amount of them back out when the next five star passes them on the roster. These disillusioned transfer/JuCo recruits then have different priorities than they did in high school- instead of what program seems sexy (aka not us) they go for the program close home to mama and that will give them a decent degree (i.e. us).

So thank you Bama for not only letting us in your conference but for making college football season an overall better experience from beginning to end.
