When the players ran across the field and were trying to pick it up I seriously thought it was going to break in half. I was sitting there wondering why it was made of copper when the announcer said it was covered in 24k gold. Looked like copper on my tv. Maybe I just need to adjust the rabbit ears.

I think it's pretty cool, myself. It's essentially just a gilded map; I guess you're not a fan of maps?
Besides, who really gives a frick about what it looks like? It gives the boys that much more reason to play tough and fight till the end.

I was always happy to get a TCBY in a waffle cone. Of course, the losing team was in there too, so the win lost a little of its luster.

There are several trophies in the big12 and big 10 that are worse than both.
Personally, the boot has grown on me since it was introduced in the mid 90s, all the games decided by 5 points or less over the years probably has a lot to do with that.

Interesting but probably incorrect. 24 carat gold is not the same as 24 karat gold. Carat is a unit of weight and refers to gemstones which gold is not. Karat is a unit of composition and with gold 24 indicates 100% composition. Most jewelry is 10 or 14 karat as gold in pure form is quite soft and easily damaged. It is also extremely heavy.
For a trophy of that size to be passed about freely seems dubious and dangerous as that much gold would invite theft. Say the trophy weighs 200 pounds and is pure gold. If you have 200 lbs x 16 oz = 32,000 standard ounces but gold is measured in troy ounces which are about 10% heavier for simple math so 32,000 standard ounces should equal 32,000 - 3,200 or 28,800 troy ounces. If the spot price of gold (rounded to nearest 100) is 1,200 dollars, then 1,200 x 28,800 = roughly 34.5 million dollars. Do you really think they would put that kind of dough in a trophy?
