It's been discussed ad nauseum. They'd have to wait until next session 2 years from now or the governor, who is a Texas and Vandy grad, would have to call a special session...he'd also have to sign it (he won't) if it made it to his desk.

Won’t be a legislative session for almost another 18 months and a UT grad is in charge of the legislative calendar (so these bills will never make it to vote) and a UT governor that could veto if needed.

The legislative option is dead…

They don’t have a quorum though. Didn’t all their dem legislators fly to DC and get/spread COVID?

I’ll guess that those lawmakers are graduates of institutions in Texas not named the University of Texas.

Big 12 officials have discussed a structure in which Texas and Oklahoma would receive additional revenue shares as a way of enticing the two schools to remain in the conference rather than pursue a future in the SEC, conference sources have told CBS Sports.

Such a structure would grant the Longhorns and Sooners an additional half-share annually (1.5 shares each), bumping their payouts to approximately $56 million per year. The other eight schools would decrease their payouts accordingly. Big 12 schools currently average $37 million in annual TV rights earnings, including revenue from bowl games and the NCAA Tournament.

On top of being embarrassing for th Big 12, that would create a toxic environment.
Also this isn't about just money, it's about sustainability. The Big 12 and all of its predecessors (SWC, Big8) isn't sustainable.
Just something about that part of the country, a conference based in Big 12 has never worked. This was a chance for UT and OU to jump to perhaps the most stable league of the past 100 years.

They are enticing them by saying, we will commit to making 2 schools very strong in a 12 man playoffs, but if they do join, we could all be making 60 million a year and have cooler games, but those are the two options rn I guess

Big 12 scraps begging TU and OU to screw them harder. Pathetic.

It’s like a soap opera

If they join we can share stories, we didn’t get busted breaking the rules 7 times for nothing, and Texas always claiming they are good boys, never cheat, each school has a bag man but theirs, those mf’ers were breaking the rules with us

Even before UT and OU's announcement of leaving, the Big 12 TV partners declined to renegotiate their contract. Basically telling them they're a bad TV product.

The SEC's new deal will pay out $65 million per school. And that's before the addition of UT and OU, so that number will surely go up

Ah. To live in the cuckland conference. frick Texas. Not sure why the other Big 12-2 programs would want that.

Sec is paying out 44-47 million a year as it is now. And, that is pretty safe to not ebb/flow greatly for the near future.

Even in the linked article, it says projections with UT and OU joining the SEC could be 60 million plus.

And, they don't have the pressure of having to carry the conference.

They should have made the move in 2012; as long as the SEC doesn't block it, I don't see them saying no again regardless of a deal restructure that will cause long term conference discord
