To answer OP's question... it has become the annual B12 talking point - A&M is scared to play (insert Big12 team here)! Yes, so scared that A&M has played 2 Big12 teams in the past 3 years, and stomped both.
But Texas or Texas Tech are far more scary than OU or West Virginia! /shudder

LSU is going to the Texas Bowl because the SEC isn't sending them to Music City two years in a row.
Aggies going to Music City, no problem.
Aggies have played and beaten Big 12 teams in 2 of the 3 bowls we have had since joining the SEC.
Aggies beat Texas Tech the last 3 times we played them.
We have no interest in re-creating the old Big 12 and they are free to say whatever they want.

If true. IF. The key word is IF. Then it's probably because Texas a&m knows that would be a tough game for them. Texas Tech and Texas A&M are almost identical teams, so it's basically a cripple fight till the end.
Or they are just sick of the Texas teams and the Texas Bowl and realize fans interest.
