We've had season openers on Friday, Sunday, and Monday in the past 8 years. This is nothing new.
I guess S Carolina didn't claim their usual slot this year.

Wow, really?
We did that one time, when we played Georgia State (which was ridiculous to begin with). And it was awful and embarrassing.
Appalachian State is a pretty legitimate mid-major opponent.

Eh, this isn't 2007.
We played them in 2013 towards the end of the year (our injury decimated season) and won 45-6.

It's not 2013 either. They were good last year and return quite a bit. They've won 17 of their last 19 games, only losing to Clemson and Arkansas State. They hammered Southern last year and won their bowl game vs a pretty good Ohio team.
They will be solid.

It's funny seeing Tennessee fans using the same reasons to justify playing on Thursday night that they made fun of us for in previous years.
