I'll say this, I don't know what the UT band director did but why do they even need a band at UT? I was at the Carolina/UT game this past Saturday and I have never seen a school that used so much piped in music. They played a song after every down and during during every stoppage. I know at Carolina, when the band starts playing if there is music coming through the PA they stop it unless it's sandstorm. That was not the case at UT. I sat right behind the Carolina band Saturday and could barely hear them due to the loudness of the stadium music and it was after every play that UT did this, so I feel bad for those in the Pride of the Southland cause basically there own school has regulated them to only being able to perform at high time.

I wasn't at the game, but this is the reason for all the uproar. I personally don't like it if it was that much. Good for recruits I guess but sucks that we are going away from tradition.

That's why the head band director's pissed off.

If you really want to know what's going on read this link and make sure you read both letters.

UT puts Pride band director on leave for insubordination

I knew Dr. Pappas, head of UT's School of Music, when he was the choir director at MSU.

That's exactly what the Pride got mad over. And TBH, I'm mad as hell about it too.

Makes perfect sense then...those kids put in a lot of hard work and practice in the band and should be able to play without competing over piped in music.

The Pride mentioned a lot of this is the new SEC rules. This will be coming to your school as soon as next year -- they're hellbound and determined to first cut out the bands and give us all piped in music and second start cutting out the piped in music and giving us commercials. They've already changed many of the rules which is affecting the SEC bands' ability to travel to games. When Arky told A&M to eff off this year they were within their rights (that wouldn't have happened in the past.)

This quote from the linked article really caught my eye:

quote:

Rhett Butler played with the Pride from 2002 to 2005. He said Sousa is intensely passionate about the band. "I know there has been struggles before, not just with the athletics thing, but just a lot of different things and I think it was just at a point where he was ready for someone else to carry the fight,"
