South...

Georgia
S. Carolina
N.C. State

North...
Va. Tech
Tennessee
Vandy
Kentucky

Central...
Alabama
Auburn
Ole Miss
Miss. State

West...
LSU
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Missouri

9 game conference schedule.....
play other 3 in division...
1 permanent cross division rival from each of the other 3 divisions...
rotate 1 team home & away from each other division until all are played...

You'll have 6 permanent opponents & play the other 9 twice every 6 years...

Will have to get a NCAA waiver to have a 2 game 4 division winner SECC playoff tho...

If we go to four 16 team super conferences & all use this model, I think it would work...

If the choices are:

-Watch your two schools wither away in the flailing ACC

OR

-Do something about it

I feel pretty confident they will find a solution that gets both Virginia and VaTech out of the ACC and into stable conferences, either together or seperately.

IMO, it will be UVA to Big10 and VaTech to SEC....but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of both UVA/VaTech to the SEC as a compromise

you have it backwards though. uva holds the stroke in virginia, so their deal to the B1G would have to be written in stone before they agree to let vt walk away

Kind of like Texas held stroke in their state and their deal to the B1G/PAC would have to be written in stone before they agree to let A&M walk away?

None of the Carolina schools are that good in football.

UNC would be a good add but they won't go to a conference with weak basketball and outside of Kentucky (and sometimes Florida) the SEC isn't a basketball power. They also won't break off the Duke rivalry. Plus their leadership may have the view that the SEC is a "weak academic conference".

Duke isn't coming either (see above) and Wake is not in serious consideration.

So by process of elimination NC State (which is OK in football) gets the bid.

Agreed. They were intertwined once VaTech came to the ACC. I still think where one goes, the other will also.

Besides, I wouldn't mind Virginia being in the SEC. That is a damn good school.

If UVA gets a B1G invite then VT will be free to leave. It's just that UVA can't be stuck in a dead ACC.

Not only that, but if you compare stadium sizes, Duke and Wake Forest are the two smallest stadiums that host BCS Conference teams (both under 40k). UNC has 63,000 while NCSU isn't far behind with just over 57,000

you have no idea what you are talking about. the situatuons are nothing alike.

did texas pull off a minor coup to get aTm in the big 12 in the first place? did the governor make calls to get aTm in?

didnt think so

Neither one of those teams fit in the SEC. Give me Ga Tech, Clemson or FSU. All three teams already have rivalries with schools in the SEC. That is the only way you can improve the SEC.

^This^ Virginia got Va. Tech into the ACC. The ACC didn't want them at all. UVA along with the state govt. pulled the strings.

DallasGA6--Did you hack into my computer?

J/K but this is the exact pod system I had. (Most likely a lot of people have the same one)

And I also kept the permanent rival system across each pod. For example, A&M's permanent rivals are MS State (the Sherrill Rivalry), VT (the Senior Military College Rivalry), and NC State (the no name for this rivalry--yet).

Getting a waiver may require bribery, but maybe if the NCAA gets a cut of the semifinal TV revenue (which will be MEGAPROFIT) they'll give the OK.

I won't pretend to understand Virginia politics. I'll trust you certainly know better than me.

But I do know that if/when FSU/Clemson bolt to the Big12, the remaining ACC schools are going to be quickly forced into a corner with few options. It will be a mad scramble to find a landing spot in the Big12/SEC/Big10.

You're right, though...I would expect the Big12 to fire the first shot...Big10 probably comes in second with some ACC grabs, and then the SEC sits back and picks up the final few pieces, knowing full well the pieces it wants aren't necessarily coveted by the Big12/Big10....basically giving the SEC what it wants without having to do any of the dirty work (it also wouldn't surprise me to learn that the Big12/SEC work "hand-in-hand" throughout this process).

I agree, but if FSU & Clemson/whoever bolt to the B12, that leaves the ACC circling the drain & the other big ACC schools will be looking for a place to land... I could see the B10 offering Va but not VT. If this happens I think they would split up in a heartbeat...

It's all about the benjamins. And the SEC Network cable channel needs an expanded footprint--not doubling down in existing states--to get the MEGAPROFIT.

If these big schools go to super conferences the NCAA might not have any say so in the matter

The Big 4 might tell 'em to frick off... We'll start our own organization...
