Because Vegas wants everyone to put their money on Clemson before all of the big boys bet on Bama

Depends of if we try to run the ball like the first drive of the 2nd half against AU. If we try to stand back and throw without establishing some kind of run, I agree.

They opened as a one point favorite.

That's basically a toss up.

If Bama was favored by 10, you might have a point.

Gambling lines are not always based on who the better team it, instead by who Vegas feels that gamblers will put money on.

Have not followed Bama vs the spread but I think they didn't cover 3 or 4 games this year. Seems they are usually better than that so there could be a lot of gamblers that bet on them every week because they are a good cover team.

Bama should not be favored and I believe the committee rankings are about as close to being correct as can be determined based on what we know now. Apparently the betting gods feel that in 30 days Bama's injuries won't be the factor they were vs Auburn but I haven't seen anything in Bama's offense that leads me to believe that they will be able to move the ball effectively against that stalwart Clemson defense.

Bottom line:

Oklahoma with Mayfield at the helm should be favored over Georgia

and

Clemson with their advantage in the trenches on both sides of the ball should be favored over Alabama.

You should.

I think Clemson is the better team, though.

Alabamas defense is ranked ahead of Clemson in pretty much every category. I don't understand why everyone assumes Clemson will just manhandle Alabama defensively.

ETA: I should also add that Bama ranks above Clemson in total offense also. So, again, I don't get why we're assuming its gonna be some kind of bloodbath. Seems like two pretty evenly matched teams to me.

I'd make Clemson a 6 point favorite. That said, Bama has great talent and good coaching with a month to get healthy and prepare for Clemson. I expect a close game, and if Bama will finally commit to running the ball, they can win. Saban has a history of doing well in huge games with lots of prep time. That said, if I were a betting man I'd likely put my money on Clemson winning a close one.

This. Clemson should've opened around -7 but Vegas is smart.

Really? You've been a gambler for years yet you don't know that lines aren't set based on who they think will win the game?

If you think Vegas is wrong, go down to your usual pay day loan place, get some cash and put it all on Clemson straight up.

Probably because they have four weeks to prepare and they are betting on Saban more than they are the team. Most of our players will be healthy and rested so I look for this to be a great ballgame.

It's a great spot for Bama. Coming off a loss, undervalued. Our last 2 matchups were coming off a blowout with 1 week to prepare. This time we've got 5 weeks to prepare and get healthy. Much more like a season opener than the past 2 national championships. Also, Clemson has a stud D-line best in football, but they are below SEC caliber at LB and their secondary is average. Their offense looks a lot like ours. QB is very similar, great WR's, good Oline, not as strong RBs. They just run a different scheme in a different conference. They take more chances so more big plays and more turnovers.

It's a good spot for Bama I think we take the rubber match.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Just bet on Clemson and be happy. I did.

I sure hope he does. If Saban would start Tua we win.
