Fournette is playing with a hurt ankle. LSU's oline has been auditioning for a M.A.S.H. reboot (4 starters got injured during the State game). Not excuses, but does make a difference.

Not really. It was just an impressive performance by Knight. Just about any other QB in the SEC would've been sacked several times. He scrambled out of trouble so many times.

I would say that it is because our starting OLine is not performing all that well but I have not seen them on the field together long enough to make that judgment

This is what I don't understand, how can we do this well against a Bud Foster defense (and btw, it is a good defense, we got some gifts from Tech or the score would have been much closer), and do so pitifully against Appy state and Ohio?

Can someone explain how this happens?

I didn't see much of the State game so I didn't know the flow of the game. Sometimes with a great back like Fournette the OL could be awful all game and he could have 3-4 great runs and then get stopped a lot at the line.

Our RBs were still at 4 ypc if you take away Knight's stats and the big run. Considering where our OL was last year and the youth we are starting on the interior, I will take that all day.

It was the magic of Bristol. NASCAR is the source of Tenn's power.

We didn't do anything different against Tech, except designed QB runs, than we did against the other 2.

Because the defense was keying on Knight.

It doesn't matter who they're keying on if folks aren't getting blocked. Even with your incredibly cherry picked stats we were effective rushing the ball, and the expectations were not high to start the year.

We have work to do in pass pro but I couldn't be happier about the run blocking

The MSU game seemed odd, felt like the OLine was dropping like flies every few minutes

Just looked it up

quote:

LSU's senior center, who saw action at left tackle for the first time Saturday night, was the only starting offensive linemen who did not require attention from the medical staff during the Tigers' 23-20 win against Mississippi State at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers used at least five offensive line combinations, incorporating reserves such as center Andy Dodd and guard Garrett Brumfield, but they did not allow a sack.

Even still, I did not think the Oline looked that bad. And looking at the stats it looks like it seems as though the 2 failed reverses for -8 yards brought down our traditional rushing average down a bit. Between Guice, Fournette, and Etling they averaged 5.25 yards. The 2 negative reverses brings the average down to 4.5. So other than those 2 plays it pretty much looked liked the status quo

so really without those 2 plays we would be averaging 5.4 ypc a game
