As long as Sumlin wins 8 games a year, keeps his nose clean, and there continue to be no player scandals, he will be Head Coach as long as he wants the job.

add in "as long as the seats are full" and I'd have to agree.

That 8 wins will be tested soon tho

I am sure some interesting mid major and lower major guys will emerge this year along with Morris that will be the more realistic candidates

In terms of the pure ability to coach and build a program, I would go with Craig Bohl from Wyoming. I don't think he's a big enough "splash" for the decision makers nor do they have the patience for him to get his pieces in place.

That is what got Wally Groff fired.

will target
= has already contacted. It's good to get this out there for multiple reasons and neither party minds.

1. While Sumlin already knows he's on the hot seat, a little extra pressure can't hurt at this point.

2. It's a good way for the Admin/BOT to silently speak to the fans and keep them assuaged, "We know your pain and we are doing something about it, if it doesn't fix itself."

3. Everybody is concerned about image. It let's Dabo check the media/fans' temp on both sides. How does everyone react if I move? What is the media perception? Are there things about TAMU that I need to know? Are there things about Dabo we need to know? LIke a Presidential election, coaching searches will bring those things out.

4. Search activity is good for both sides. It let's other coaches know that the position is open, allowing the maximum number of qualifiers to express interest and throw their hat in the ring. It starts the bidding war for Dabo now, so by the end of even a 9-10 win season, he commands maximum dollar. Of course, even at good money, Dabo may still say no to TAMU, but there isn't a downside for either party.

A couple of things.

1. It's Board of Regents, not Board of Trustees.

2. Texas Monthly is not "the media". It's one shitty outlet, and in this case one shitty writer.

3. A&M's decision makers almost always require one catastrophic or galvanizing event in order to make any moves when it comes to the coaching front. In 2002, it was Robert Gates giving the middle finger to the establishment and firing Slocum. In 2007, it was the Franchione VIP Newsletter fiasco that was used as cover for his firing. In 2011, it was the multiple collapses in losses culminating with the 2011 Texas game that got Sherman fired. In each case, the decision was made early in the season but the action wasn't taken until later in order to give the coach the opportunity to pull a Herman Boone from Remember the Titans and get himself out of it. Two more examples: Slocum probably isn't fired after the 2002 season if he didn't follow up the Oklahoma win with a loss to 5-7 Missouri and a blowout loss to Texas. Slocum probably is fired after the 1997 or 1998 season if he had another year like 1996.

Just hire God. They claim to have enough $$ to.

What they need to do is bring back the best coach A&M ever had... yes... hire Zombie Bear Bryant.

Sure he would, from time to time, attack assistants and eat their brains but he has to be better then Sumlin. Heck, I'd hire Zombie Bear Bryant to be the Arkansas coach in a heart beat. Or non heart beat as the case may be.

A&M should hire the L6U AD to do their coaching search . He had over half the season to canvas the better coaches agents and was able to find the best man for the job right under his nose.
I bet he can do every bit as good for the Aggies.

As far as your other stupid claim, Slocum was fired after four seasons of 8-4, 7-5, 8-4, and 6-6. Had Slocum played the extra FCS game every season that Sumlin did, his records would have been 9-4, 8-5, 9-4, and 7-6...an average of just over 8 wins per year. Take away the FCS games and Sumlin has gone 7-5, 7-5, and 7-5 over the last 3 seasons.

If RC had won 8 games w/a freshman Reggie McNeal there is zero chance he would have been fired. ZERO.

I must have missed the part where Rich Rod grew up a huge fan and played for Bama?

what makes ya'll so sure Dabo would take the Bama job. I mean, Rich Rod turned it down...

Because he's from Alabama.

Because he played at Alabama.

Because he was a GA at Alabama.

Because he spent 5 years as an assistant at Alabama.

You could have used a lot of examples, but Rich Rod was the worst. He had no ties to Alabama.

Everybody knows he will stay at Clemson until Alabama opens up. Move along nothing to see here.

I doubt he'll leave Clemson for A&M or for Bama. hell, the guy has it made there. no matter what either school offers, Clemson can match or come close enough for him not to risk his career on moving. following Saban is suicide. I think going to A&M would be a better move but then again, why leave Clemson?

the most difficult thing to do in hiring a college HC is to lure a successful HC from another top university that can pay as much as you can. ohio state didn't get meyer from florida; bama didn't get saban from lsu, etc, etc. a "coming home" event might happen if the circumstances justify (seriously ill family member, etc) but basically those guys don't move.

An "A&M fan" on the SEC Rant for over 2 years with zero posts or topics on the A&M Forum = Alter.

I am going to post a topic on Texags tonight entitled "Ags Posting On Other Boards" we'll see who's full of shite when you see how many thousands of posts I have on Texags.

We have some people claiming to be Aggies on this board badly in need of remediation of their reading comprehension.

I haven't said one mother fricking word on this thread in support of Sumlin. I just told you wtf was going on.

I have already expressed my extreme displeasure to Micheal Young and got a response. Have you?

Just because I don't bang on my coach in this forum and give the monkeys an excuse to throw shite doesn't mean I am okay with us taking arse whippings.

Here's something that will add a little hot sauce to your OP:

Clemson will play and Home and Home against Texas A&M 2018 and 2019 with Clemson going to their house first in 2018 on Sept. 8th.

A&M will have a chance to get Dabo on campus and get that big checkbook out...LOL
