That game could have been 70-7 if we didn't call off the dogs 5 minutes into the 2nd half. Both teams have improved, but it was apparent just how outtalented and outmatched Iowa was last year. No chance they've made up THAT much ground.

Iowa went 7-6 . They had quit by the time the bowl game was played. That was what was apparent. Ferentz and the coaching staff made some drastic changes in the offseason that have payed huge dividends. If you've watched Iowa play this year compared to the last 3 or 4 years it's pretty obvious there is a huge difference in the atmosphere around the team and it shows in play. There hasn't been a 2012-2013 Auburn level improvement, but you'd be hard pressed to find a team that's improved more than Iowa.

I almost wish I had grown up with my Iowa side of the family. Working for myself as a farmer sounds so much better to me than office work right now.
I spent a summer working a farm as a teenager and let me tell you, they knew how to have fun! Pig roasts and keggers almost every weekend. There was always work to do, but it wasn't a bad lifestyle and they all seemed to make plenty of money. At least before the corporates moved in.
All that said, being married to the animals or having your fortunes determined by the amount of rain your crops get could get old and stressful quick. Not to mention purchasing and paying off six figure equipment. Lots of variables outside of your control to bankrupt you or make your life stressful as hell. No thanks.

That's why it's damn near impossible to get into farming without inheriting the business from family. Both my uncles are nearing retirement and unfortunately none of my cousins have shown any interest in taking over either family farm.

They are improved no doubt. And I acknowledged that I didn't think we would walk over them again if we played this year. I bet it would be decently close. Hell, maybe Iowa would win. But a worse UT team beat them so badly last year that it's hard for me to picture us losing to them again if we rematched in a bowl. Also we would quite likely come in riding a 5 game win streak, and Butch coaches extremely well when he has a long period of time to prepare. It would be an interesting game for sure.

Yeah, I've seen something similar with my family in Iowa. I hope one of my cousins steps up but most of them moved to either Des Moines or Cedar Rapids. My mom's side of the family has been farming in Iowa since the 1850s.

Not RazorHawk, but I think it will all come down to timing and Bielema's success here. If the Iowa job was to be open at the end of this year, would they even want Bielema at this point? If Bielema shows he can be successful here, I think it will be hard to keep him from Iowa if/when they come calling. The desire to go home is a tough thing to fight against.

Same with my dad's side. My oldest cousin actually has an agriculture degree from ISU (hates the Cyclones though

Lots of Cyclone alums in my extended family on both sides (my parents met at ISU) but my grandpa (lifelong farmer) was a Hawkeye through and through.
My grandpa gave me a good ribbing during my visit over Christmas 2004 as LSU was playing Iowa and Saban announced he was bolting for Miami. Unfortunately he passed a few years later so he got the last laugh on that one.
Iowa is full of good people. They just aren't the best at football. Scrappy as hell though and my favorite home away from home.

we had a few kids come to our school after Katrina that were LSU fans and I had some good fun with them over that Hail Mary since it was the most recent bowl season And yeah, they aren't the best but they'll reward you with two or three pretty damn good seasons every decade.
