This Kentucky team is ridiculously good. I don't think i've ever seen a team that can out run you when they want to and then slow it down and play half court offense like pros. They are really something else.

That memphis team had nowhere near the talent this Kentucky team has. Sure they had Rose and he was head and shoulders above everyone else, but this Kentucky has the two most athletically talented kids that have college bball in a long time. MKG dunks more times than most guys lay it up. For crying out loud he dunks on guys, flat footed, that have 3 or more inches on him. Davis hasn't even scored and is having a greater impact on the game than Robinson of Kansas. Cal just has to coach not to let them eff it up.

Totally agree, but the '08 Kansas team was inferior in talent to the '08 Memphis team which was evident until Memphis fell apart at the end of the game. That was the point I was making to challenge the Talent>Coaching argument. This KY team should run this KS team out of the gym, but they also should have run that Louisville team out of the gym Saturday. We shall see.

That Kansas team had enough talent to match Memphis other than Rose. CDR, Joey Dorsey and Taggart were decent players but none could dominate a game individually. Kentucky on the other hand has 3 players that can, Jones, Davis and MKG. Along with Teague, Lamb and Miller this team is extremely hard to beat. Like you said though, Cal can and has effed it up in the past so I guess we will see if third time is the charm.

Cal has his deficiencies. But it takes a special kind of coach to get young, often egotistical talent to play like a team. Look at Howland and UCLA as to how that can go wrong if you don't have control. Cal also doesn't get NEAR enough credit for teaching guys to play lockdown defense in a short stretch of time.

He's not the best X's and O's guy but he's evolved from that coach in '08 into a good X's and O's guy.

Talent AND coaching trumps quite a bit.

True, he has done a better job with this squad than he did with Wall and Cousins. He has done a great job getting T.J. to buy into the system.

I don't think he necessarily did a worse job. Had Meeks stayed they would've had that shooter they needed in the tournament that year.

As good as a job he's done this year, he did a great job last season with the group he had. Especially Harrellson and Liggins.

Sorry but you have to be dumb to not think Cal is a great coach. Just look at his track record. Dude is the best recruiter in the nation and he gets his teams to play at their best. You can't ask for much more than that.
