For years, Tennessee was No. 1 in bowl appearances and Texas was No. 2.

That has obviously changed with God Saban at Alabama and Tennessee having a drought after 2010.

Alabama has been #1 in bowl appearances as long as I can remember.. WAY before Saban showed up.

And USC has always been #2..
Edit: USC is #2 in bowl WINs not appearances.

How old are you? 34? Come on, man.

Tennessee was No. 1 in bowl appearances for a long, long time.

Are they counting the semifinals and championship games (two bowls per season)? That has to be the case.

Here's a link to a late 2011 article saying Tennessee and Texas were tied for No. 1.

That article says that Tennessee and Texas are tied with number of appearances, but it did not say tied at #1.

I was a freshman at Bama in 2000, and Bama was already #1 in bowl appearances by that time. Then Bama had probably their darkest 8 year period from 2000 through 2007 (although there were 3 10-win seasons during that time). But I guess you could say they have possibly had their best 10 year stretch since then.

Alabama 66

Are those all real bowl appearances or just bowls that Bama claims that they went to?

It is strange seeing so many low numbers. For the last ~15 years or so just about everyone makes a bowl

Yeah, these rankings will probably not change very much through the years for this reason.

Arkansas was out of the SWC before bowl tie ins. That all started in the early 90's. It was every school for themselves back then. I remember in the 80's teams would accept bowl bids in early November because the bowls wanted to make sure they got "name" teams.

For years, my dick would get so hard that a cat couldn't scratch it, but now I'm afraid it would draw blood.

By the way, Alabama was ahead of the Vols in bowl appearances looong before Saban got there.

Ole Miss 37? It will be 49 after this season. If you can't go to a postseason bowl, name every game a bowl game.

Auburn only at 41??? That seems a bit lower than expected.

Only nine of those major Bowls. Five Sugar, two Cotton, and two Orange. Plus the two BCSNCGs

So ut and UT had 49 appearances six years ago in 2011 and they were ahead of Bama? Now they have 52 and Bama has SIXTY SIX!?

From the linked article: "Tennessee has a long and storied history in bowl games. The Vols 25 bowl wins ties them for sixth on the all-time list with the Texas Longhorns. Tennessee is also tied with Texas in bowl appearances with 49."

Reading comprehension, baw. It never says they're tied for first, just that they're tied.

Wasn't as tough to get to a bowl game back in the SWC days, despite being fewer bowl games back then.

The frick are you talking about?

Its not tough to go to a bowl now. Just look at the schools with losing records going to bowl games.

Arkansas had 2 seasons where it finished 9-2 with no bowl game and 9 seasons with a winning record with no bowl game. In today's bowl climate, Arkansas would have 11 more bowl appearances.

So, saying it was ever easier to get to a bowl game compared to what it has been since 2000 is flat out stupid on your part.

I could be mistaken, but I think he was saying, back in that time, it was easier in the SWC, than the SEC.
I can't speak on that, because I don't really have any memory of y'all in the SWC.
