I assumed most football fans - particularly the ones who follow the sport closely enough to post on a sports message board - knew when the AP started doing their thing.

Before Johnny Manizel Texas A&M finished in the top 5 once in the last 80 years.

A&M should be 3, not 2 just FYI.

You should see his posts on the Poli board.

Must be what he's talking about. Maybe 25% of my posts have been on this board over the last week and a half or so.

Top 5 finishes in College Basketball:
29- Kentucky
4- Arkansas
3- Missouri
2- Florida
It is impressive, but believe they release the final poll before the tournament. It is a bit odd seeing us with two considering we have two national championships and a runner-up finish in 2000.

This thread didn't turn out the way OP thought it would.
OP needs to check his facts.

Surprising lack of AP Top 5 finishes for the Big 6 over the last 80 years... by Tuscaloosa
I went to College Football Data Warehouse "Associated Press Final Season Polls" page
LSU has 9 AP Top 5 finishes, but 10 if you count 1935 (when Dickinson Poll was used instead of AP). LSU was #4 in that poll.
What's lost in this is that there were 10 other additional polls where LSU finished 6th, 7th or 8th, just out of the Top 5!; and 35 times finishing in the Final top 15.
So LSU has 20 Top 8 finishes.
Not too Shabby!
