Surely LSU Admin has a replacement nearly locked in?

I understand why people feel Les needed to go, but what's the point of firing the guy if you don't have a replacement ready to roll? Seems a bit melodramatic.

As quickly as things moved today, I mean, where in the hell did Coach Jenkins come in from?? I believe they have been working on something since the Wisconsin game. You might be right that they have someone in line already. If that is the case, look to FSU.

Gus lost his play calling privilege, and they're worried about your next coach.
Really Aubren?

It's September. They're not gonna come out with a brand new coach already.

Only advantage that gives you is that it gives you a head start on the Herman sweepstakes a chance to kiss and make up with Jimbo.

I agree with the OP. What was the point of firing him now? Even if you do have someone lined up, you can't announce him. Either they have a job to finish out or it's Briles and you don't announce him unless you want to get crucified by the pontificating talking heads. Nothing is accomplished by the knee jerk reaction. Why not put out the usual AD-speak vote of confidence and we will re-evaluate at season's end? Everybody would know what that meant but you don't appear reactionary.

What you are saying makes sense but the concern was he'd do just enough to keep his job.

Early start.. No chance for miles to wiggle off the hook.. Team needed some fire.. Ed O brings that and did an amazing job at USC when they were in complete turmoil. Ppl up there still pissed he didn't at least get a shot.

LINKso at least one news outlet says LSU has reached out to Herman and Briles.

Hmmm; Herman is in the middle of a possible playoff run, and Briles is just hanging around. I can guess who might call back first

Afterall, our big complaint was boring lack of offense. Talks of scandals in the past (that are currently being refuted) would fade away fast, if you get an offense scoring in the high 30's every game.
