Without a tailgating culture, tv will kill college football at some schools.

Stanford actually has a great tailgaiting area around the stadium. their fanbase is just the suck....it's not all the rain and timing

Well that might be a few more options on a Friday night in San Francisco versus Jackson Mississippi

But there are a lot more people that live out in Cali compared to Mississippi. They should be able to find 70,000 people that like Stanford/UCLA football you would think.

Stanford Stadium doesnt seat 70k

it only holds 50k after they reduced it from 85k about 5 or 6 years ago.

I'm willing to bet had this game been on the weekend with better weather it would be closer to a sellout.

They seem to draw much better for decent Pac12 teams.

Not necessarily. Most people I know can't stand either school. I'm only slightly pulling for Stanford because they are wearing black tonight. UCLA and Alabama have been my least favorite teams in college football since the early 60s.

That doesn't help make your point! There are more people that should be at the game in a city that big!

If Mississippi State played a rematch against Ole Miss in Palo Alto, California @ 2am on a Tuesday in the driving rain with a Rose Bowl berth on the line for both teams, bet your arse we would find a way to put a damn respectable crowd in that stadium...

Comes back to a simple truth... Other places in the country simply do not care about college athletics in the same way that we do in the southeast.

Are they amplifying the crowd noise?

Sounds like there are 100K in there tonight.

The sad thing is that it's not even a nutral site game. That's at Stanford's stadium. The home team can't even get enough fans there to there to watch their team win a championship.

That shows the interest in football out west..they dont have a freaking clue what big boy football is all about. UF would break into their cribs at halftime and steal their cheeze and drink their beer.

Must never have been out west. You have a big misconception about the people who live out here.

Stanford doesn't give a shite about football.

They really don't. Small alumni with better things to do, located in an area solely given to Professional Franchises. Not only do they not travel to away games...they don't travel across the street.

Bay Area traffic at 5 pm. Truly stupid time for a game. With rain it could take you 4 hours to go 30 miles on Friday afternoon. Parking and game day transportation had to be a nightmare on a regular business day.

I am completely confident that a home game SEC Championship game played at 3AM on a Wednesday in a hurricane would sell out. Even if it was at Vandy the opposing team would make up the difference.
