I haven't been on this board in awhile, but when did all of the anti-Sumlin sentiment start?

In his first year in the most difficult division in the most difficult conference in sports, he was 11-2, with a #5 ranking. His players won a few national trophies as well.

Year 2, he finished #18, signed the nation's 6th/8th/11th recruiting class (depending on recruiting service), and notched losses to teams ranked #1, 5, 18, & 24. Not national championship caliber, but certainly nuthin' about which to hang his head. He also put some of the NFL's current hottest players in the league.

Year 3--by all accounts--was always going to be a rebuild year (I wish someone would find & bump the preseason prediction threads); but an upset of SCAR in the season opener had media and rival fans (not Sumlin) doing their obligatory knee-jerks and crowning the Ags title contenders. Silly. Regardless, Sumlin is still killin' it on the recruiting trail.

Anyone who is serious about analyzing sports (and not just throwing out insults & talking outta his arse for the hell of it) understands the import of consistency when building a program. Sumlin is going to be given that opportunity. I realize that some SEC schools pull the trigger on their coach for not winning the conference in three years, but that's not A&M's style. Never has been, never will be. We're fiercely loyal like that--some say to a fault.

Anyway, make no mistake about it: Sumlin has a ridiculous amount of support in Aggieland. He's not going anywhere. And Aggies aren't the ones who give Richt shite; that mud-slinging comes from y'all's friends outside of Texas.

If LSU had a great head coach, the Tigers would have been the back-to-back champions in '11 and '12. Not Alabama.

And don't be surprised to see him receive another bump in the future.
Like I said, the people who matter most are committed to him.
And the fans love him.
Whether others agree with that reality is a moot point.

Low standards I guess.

The east has been dogshit for 4-5 years now at least. It has been there for the taking and Richt can't get over the hump. Man, think how differently we would be talking had UGA been able to finish that drive vs Bama in the SECCG a couple of years ago.

Who knows?
That's certainly one way to characterize it, I guess.
A large percentage of our former students and powers that be are military guys who believe in "sticking with your boys," and/or "leaving no man behind," so to speak.
Like I said before, characterizing Aggies as loyal to a fault isn't anything new.
Time will ultimately tell how history writes Sumlin's story at A&M.

A lot of LSU posters on this site want him to go to Michigan

Understand that the miniscule percentage of Tiger alums and fans who post on boards do not represent the actual fan base's opinion of Miles. The vast majority of Tiger fans want him to stay in BR. Most wins in the SEC during his tenure means something to people who aren't short-sided. What are the odds that the next coach leads the SEC in victories over a decade time span. Not very good IMO. Here's to Les staying on in BR.

They would've found someway to frick it up against Notre Dame.

You are an odd little man.

2012 UGA like you mentioned, and Florida was 11-1 that year. Cocks had 10 wins, and made it 11 in their bowl game kicking the shite out of Michigan.

Mizzou was 5-7.

So go frick yourself chappy.

Do you really think after this many years Richt is going to have some breakthrough and win it all?

People said the same thing about Tom Osborne and Bobby Bowden.

It took Bowden almost 20 years just to play for a title.
And William Floyd fumbled.

It's about being able to put together a great offense and a great defense at the same time, usually what people call a Dream Team in hindsight. There's some luck involved with that, with injuries and schedule, and every single NC team had some luck at some point in the season with a lucky call by a ref or needed some other team ranked higher to lose in the last week, etc.

Richt just needs to keep doing what he's doing, and build an indoor practice facility, and his time will come.

And even if it doesn't, he'll go down in history as the greatest coach to never win it all.

Well said, deeprig9.
Frustrating or not, that's the spot-on truth.
Richt will get there at UGA--I have very, very little doubt about it.

actually the fact that we won 2 games in the conference that season is an embarrassment,,, for the East.

of the things Richt and Pinkel have in common, coming up short in big games is unfortunately among them.

Nobody was doing more crowning than aggie fans.

A few did, for sure.
I (and others) did not.

I know, a freaking winning record three years in the hardest division in football and he only makes $5 million a year. A bargin in Texas dollars.

Go back to 2011. Every rival told us on our way out the Big 12 door that the mighty SEC was going to run a train on A&M like Bert got. Most predicted a winless SEC record the first year, with a lone win in the second. I have MS paints to prove it.

Instead here we sit three years in with a winning SEC record, big wins over top 10 teams, the best recruiting maybe ever and certainly more exposure than any other team in our state gets. For our money, we are getting a hell of a bargin.

How old are you Mr UF fan? Do you remember the time before the 90's, the time before UF was a superpower in football?

If so you remember the long climb that UF went through to wake its sleeping giant. That is the part of the curve we are on thrity years later and in another division. So far so good, two steps forward with a step back every now and then is still progress. In the long run "overpaying" him can't be BAD anyway, as it might help us get a better coach than we "should" get next cycle. Being cheap on everything from facilities to coaching salaries like UF gets you hires below the expectations of your university (like UF).
