Sugar Bowl experience

Had never been to a sugar bowl. Decided to go yesterday around noon.
Pregame in champions square was a disappointment. I thought the crowds for both teams were rather docile. Personally, I only witnessed a single trash talk event between opposing fans and it was nothing I wanted to listen to.
From my view it seemed the crowd was 60-65% Texas, both outside and inside the dome. The crowd was loud for the first few min of the game, and on the last drive where UT was trying to win the game. I was in the terrace on the 40 yd line a lot closer to the bottom than the top, among mostly Washington fans.
The scoreboard operator was Busch league. Showed UT winning 7-0 all the way until UT tied the game at 7. During the little tidbit trivial stats they put up there, they mentioned Ewers setting conference championship records in defeating OU 49-21. Obviously they defeated OSU, not OU. Down and distance were off at the time of snap at least four times that I saw.
You can get a 25oz domestic beer for $16 or a cocktail for $18. Ridiculous and makes no sense. The cocktails did have a nice kick of alcohol in them however.
Texas fans undoubtedly hate OU more than they hate aTm and it isn't even close. I polled several of them that I met.
Fans of both teams were more than willing to throw a "Geaux Tigers" my when they noticed I was supporting LSU and not Washington.
It was a great game and I'm glad I went. Will probably go every year, now.

My first time going as well. Was very pleasantly surprised at how great that atmosphere was. New Orleans, Bourbon, the game itself... all top notch. Definitely makes me regret not also going on NYD 2019

The game did not disappoint. The crowds did. I expected more pomp and circumstance and the like. Some noise and enthusiasm. The crowds seemed lame.
But the game itself delivered.

Go when it’s an SEC team like Ole Miss, Bama or LSU playing in it. It’s a massive party. The smell of piss doesn’t go away though

quote:Neither fanbase are the type where a couple hundred end up in N'awlins drunk tanks for fighting and generally rednecks being rednecks. The city actually got lucky..tons of money spent by both Texas and UW without a lot of shite going down that has to be cleaned up. The rowdiest Texas fanbase you'll see is either the RRS in Dallas or a night game at home against a decent opponent. We'll never be like LSU though, take it as you will.
