Steele: the ace recruiter or by-product of bama's system?

I've seen many LSU fans upset about the Steele hire, but fall back on the fact that he's at least an ace recruiter. My question is: how was his recruiting pre-Bama?
The fact that he brought in a few #1 Bama classes isn't that impressive considering their string of success under Saban. Obviously he is still competent and most likely above average, but I don't think Bama misses a beat on the recruiting trail.
Saban personally seals the deal on 5* recruits (skyping the Sheffield family every week), so is Steele really an ace recruiter or is he an average guy given amazing resources and selling points at Bama?

All LSU knows is he recruited well enough to whoop A&Ms arse and LSU doesn't need anymore help with that so it most likely a pluse.

I just can't help but laugh at Steele being a coach at any school.
He was the worst Baylor football coach ever and that is saying something.

I think yall will still recruit well, especially if yall get Ed O.
I wonder if going from a 4-3 to 3-4 affects DT recruits, especially with the 2016 LA D-line recruits.

2005 Rivals.com National Recruiter of the Year whilst at Florida State.
Saban paid him more than Kiffin this year.
Conclusion: He can probably recruit.

I think this "ace recruiter" thing gets overblown. It's not hard to recruit to Bama. It's not hard to recruit to LSU either.
