Classic Stevie Oh, gotta love him, God bless the HBC ... but he'd better start throwin' a beatin' that Vol arse every year after saying something like that.

He looked foolish running off at the mouth last year and then losing in Neyland.

Why? Win or lose what he said was the truth.

This is not a representative sample obviously, but no Tennessee fan I know was upset about what he said. Again, it was true -- and funny.

I don't think Spurrier is a mean-spirited person. I think there are people in football who are deeply mean-spirited, but he's not one of them.

I hope he never retires. He's like the SEC's Ric Flair.

It's not even that insulting. It's Spurrier being Spurrier. I think it's funny.

Spurrier actually likes us and would've played for us had we ran a different offense. He grew up a Vol fan. He hates on us because that's the irascible hillbilly in him.

Pretty much that. He has a zinger for Georgia annually and no one brings up his shite when we win really. Maybe Georgia fans but after a few decades I figure most our fans are used to ol' hatin' arse Steve

The world needs more men like Steve.

Funny - he used to be the most universally-hated man in the SEC. Now he's everybody's favorite. I guess not thrashing everybody's a-hole by 50pts every week takes some of the vitriol away.

Are you kidding? Steve Spurrier gave Vol fans the time of our lives. We used to have one helluva party before UF games and Steve was a major component it. We even ran a hilarious ad parodying the credit card commercial when Steve threw his visor down in defeat (ICONIC):

“Replacing turf at Neyland Stadium — $50,000. Reimbursing CBS for a camera — $105,000. Watching Steve Spurrier throw a hissy fit on national television — priceless [a loop of Spurrier throwing his visor down, over and over].”

Tennessee fans haven't felt the same about the UF rivalry since Spurrier left. He was a part of the show and he and Fulmer played off one another perfectly.

I like how people think in his mind he's taking a jab. He just speaks his mind.

And to the people bringing up the series record and shite, you're doing exactly what I told you to do. Bring up our shitty history and record against y'all. Don't bring up one game like you won the damn super bowl or something.

If you have a trunk full of .45 acp, don't resort to the .22 in an argument.

No kidding. What team would lose to a Joker Phillips-coached Kentucky?! Or what team would lose TWICE in a ROW to Vanderbilt?! It's insanity! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Oh, wait. Again.

Don't get me started on people who run-off at the mouth and end-up looking foolish. There are far far better examples than the HBC taking a little dig at the team he grew-up following.

Ummmm...USC's loss to Tennesseee last year kept them out of the SECCG. They did accomplish something.

I would like to thank god almighty for giving everybody so much and me so little.

I hate you.

I hate you.

I don't even know you and I hate your guts.

I hope all the bad things in life happen to you and nobody else but you.

UT got way too complacent after 2001.

Fulmer's mindset in the 1990s was Beat Alabama and Florida = SEC Championship.

In the 2000s, you saw the rise of LSU, Auburn, and Georgia.

All of a sudden, the road got a little bit harder than UT was ready for.

That's the common refrain but it wasn't complacency as much as loyalty. Fulmer was loyal to a fault - Randy Sanders is a great example of that (he should've been dumped long before he was) but Fulmer gave him more time than he ever should've gotten. Randy Sanders was the OC during the time the decline/complacency happened - he'd been a player and staff member forever and Fulmer's hand had to be forced to fire him.

So Tennessee is now the Ole Miss of the East? That's something I guess.

The difference between Bama's decline and UT's decline is a difference in characteristics.

Bama wasn't complacent. God knows, they tried to switch things up to make something happen. They were just inept as hell.

UT wasn't inept. They made 3 trips to Atlanta in the 2000s. They were just complacent. They thought they would always be the #2 team in the East. When Georgia, and later South Carolina, came along, UT never got higher than #3 or #4 in the East.
