Spurrier Let His Team Down

He should have finished the season. He quit on his players. Spurrier has always been a high strung, petulant loudmouth. He was classless at Florida and he quit in a classless manner. Fitting.

We have not much to lose recruiting wise. Go ahead and hire a new coach to get a jump on recruiting. This isn't hard to figure out.
Most likely scenario: Spurrier told Tanner he was done after this year, they talked about it more and they agreed this was the best decision.

Funny, he has a winning record over Bama in the SECG.

You're gonna feel like a count when it comes out he was pseudofired or has health issues.

Is there any possibility he was asked to step down and retire now?

He also lost to Mike Dubose twice in one season.

You're an idiot, stop posting

He's in his 70s and poured his heart and soul into this game for a really long time. I think he can step down and go play golf now. It's going to be alright.

Your dumb arse will cry for Spurrier the next few years.

This won't be a popular opinion on this board, but I totally agree OPer.
I'll never forget how he mericelessly ran the score up on LSU in the '90's, and for someone with a more refreshing and sober perspective as Les Miles, to come along, and renounce that type of mentality, makes me loathe Spurrier even that much more

She may cry for the Spurrier that came to SCAR but not the one that left this year.

He's one of the few that I think could actually do that. Paterno once told Brent Musberger he kept coaching because he was afraid that he wouldn't be able to make it much longer without the grind, and that he'd suffer the same fate as Bear (who died a few weeks after his last game).
Not sure many great coaches could just leave, be happy and live for a long time, but he's definitely one of them.

Unless he has an immediate health issue, I don't see how the OP can be denied. The guy has talked and talked about how he would be there for his recruiting class. He's quitting, plain and simple. Mid-season. It's weak. Period.
