Let's not forget, Arnsbarger wanted to hire Spurrier as his replacement at LSU. How different the 90s could have been.

This is the one thing I was pissed at Saban for, when it looked like Saban was bolting the first time OBC made it known we wanted the job at LSU. It was perfect for him as he didn't want to spend ton of time recruiting. He wanted another NC run and then to retire. It worked out with Miles but he was this close to being HC at LSU.

Yeah, but our President at the time had his sights set on the job at UF, and knew he could have it in a year, so he held off hiring Spurrier at LSU, so he could hire him at UF the very next year.

actually it was Arnsparger who went to Florida as AD and hired Spurrier. Arnsparger was the one who suggested his DC for the LSU job, who was hired, and who didn't work out so well.

I always heard that the players demanded Archer saying they would only play for him.
