Didn't know MSU had beach volleyball too!

It's odd that the SEC doesn't have more teams, because the SEC's (indoor) volleyball coaches used to sponsor a conference-wide sand volleyball tournament during the indoor volleyball off-seasons between 2008-10, because the sport had just been added to the NCAA's Emerging Sports List. It seems like the SEC coaches were trying to move toward adding the beach version of the sport at that time.

Since Equestrian is an SEC-sponsored sport with only 4 teams, I'm guessing that if just one other SEC school will join LSU, MSU, and USC then the SEC will presumably start awarding titles in beach volleyball as well.

The first NCAA title will be awarded in that sport in May. They are also apparently changing the name of the sport from "Sand Volleyball" to "Beach Volleyball" for the new national tourney even though it will almost never be played on "real" beaches.

The former US gymnastics coach has a camp north of Houston.

Arm would do well in gymnastics. A lot of Bama best athletes came from Texas.

If I won the lottery, or earned my money, I would fund the construction of an indoor ice rink in Tuscaloosa. Get UA hockey a varsity classification. I would not stop pouring money into it until we went to the Frozen Four.

Not sanctioned by the SEC

Rugby.

Actually not technically sanctioned by the NCAA either.

There is a de facto SEC, called the SCRC.

Everyone except LSU, A&M, Mizzou, and Arkansas play in this conference.

LSU and A&M play in the Red River Conference. Arky and Mizzou play in the Heart of America Conference.

Poors need to cough up the cash to compete in this nobel sport

i'm surprised UT doesn't have an equestrian team. middle Tennessee is full of horse people and the state itself has a very long history of horse breeding and is famous for the Tennessee walking horse. Nashville hosts one of the worlds prominent Steeplechase events (the Iriquois). and there is lots of money in Nashville.

i'm not sure if Equestrian is quarter horses or not? middle Tennessee is more about other kinds of horses.

It is kind of shocking that the SEC does not have more programs in it.

Some teams have to refer to it as ICE hockey?

I really don't understand why this pisses some people off. Lots of kids in the south grew up playing roller hockey first before moving to ice. Seeing as how every SEC team also has a roller team, it only makes sense to clarify ice v roller.

Yea. Hopefully another school picks the sport up so the SEC can sponsor a championship... it would help the conference in establishing itself as a power in that sport as well.

When the sport first came to Carolina it was known as "Sand Volleyball".. we went through an official name change and everything early last year to "Beach Volleyball".... we even call our beach volleyball facility "wheeler beach"

Well, it would've helped the SEC's clout if Mississippi State's team hadn't joined the Pac-12 conference. What the frick???

sec hockey

Yeah, but that's a club (not varsity) sport. That "SEC" ice hockey conference that you link to above has only 10 of the SEC's member schools and competes in Division III. A&M, Mizzou, and UK have sabotaged that league by competing at the Division II-level, and Bama even decided to try out Division I this year (apparently wants to move up to full varsity-level soon like its sister school, Alabama-Huntsville).
