At one point after the civil war it was talked about moving Ole Miss to Biloxi. I actually think it would be pretty bad arse to be right on the gulf where USM on the coast is now just much bigger.

One of my best friends lived in the Piney Flat area when we were growing up. I grew up in Iuka going to the lake during the summer months. It's a great area.

Move LSU to Grand Isle. The smell alone would torment opposing teams and fans.

Madison has Tulane so OM could at least compete with someone

Grenada would have been just as good a locale for OM as Oxford.

However, the powers that be decided the new college should be away from a large city so students could focus on studies better.

Wrong call, still ain't shite to do there after all these years.

I really think that college towns are ideal for universities with large undergraduate populations. College towns are an easy way to break in to the "real world" and of course they had land available to form the institutions.

On the other hand, for certain graduate and professional programs (medicine, scientific research, law), it makes more sense to be in a bigger city.

At Auburn the focus is definitely on teaching, mostly at the undergraduate level, and for that the city of Auburn is a perfect fit. I think Auburn is a great little college town. Loved my time there.

Id move Alabama to Birmingham ....I mean ..half the Auburn fanbase calls it Bammerham anyway lol.

I think Dothan would have been a good location. Closer to Ga and Fla for recruiting reasons
