This kind of economic explosion is unprecedented. It's "..one of the “great tsunamis of investment” to happen in U.S. history." As GR said, "Sasol in Lake Charles is a 17-20 BILLION dollar capital layout project. The largest international investment on American soil in the history of our country."

According to Sasol, the plant will add up to 1,000 permanent jobs. The influx will be in the HUNDREDS. Congrats.

People are forgetting that all these new projects, on a scale dwarfing those of other states in the southeast, will have enormous trickle down effects.

The only states that your little projects will "dwarf" are the usual suspects. There's no need in being delusional.

Boy are those jimmies rustled. That plant will have trickled down benefits, beginning with the construction, and ending with spending.

Well there's irony for you. Please link the equivalent "$84 billion in projects over the next few years" in other SE states.

TIA

Don't ignore the good things happening in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. They have different advantages that they can erm..take advantage of.

I do find it funny how these Georgia people are so angry about us talking positive about Louisiana. I've barely mentioned Georgia and only to piss Catfan off. A strong Louisiana economy makes a stronger Georgia economy and visa versa.

You're talking about oil for crying out loud. Congrats on having it under your slab homes. Without it, Louisiana would be poorer than it already currently is.

...on the Rant? Surely, you jest. Name one that's not delusional

This is just another troll thread trumpeting a state, that in fact, has a long record of economic misery.

But no more...

Worth repeating AGAIN...

quote:

“Because of all we have done to make Louisiana a great place to do business, we have now set another record for the number of people working, exceeding 2 million workers for the first time in Louisiana history,” Gov. Bobby Jindal said in a statement.

“That’s even more significant when you consider that many announced major projects that will drive employment for years have not yet begun construction,” said Curt Eysink, executive director of the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

The state has been setting monthly employment records since January 2013. Not many states have more people working now than in 2008, when the Great Recession struck, Scott said.

Although economists place more emphasis on nonfarm jobs because of better data, having total civilian employment top 2 million is “a big deal,” economist Loren Scott said. Scott tracks economic data for nine other states stretching east and north of Louisiana. Most of those states have yet to recover half the jobs they lost.

“Not only are they down, they are way down,”
Scott said.

In addition, none of those states are seeing anything close to the sort of industrial expansions or new projects being announced in Louisiana.

2 million

There's irony for you again. I can feel the butthurt flowing.

I just provided the information. I didn't make anyone read it, and I didn't force anyone to post in the thread.

I've had nothing but positive things to say about my state. You've had nothing but negative things to say about my state.

There's a lot more than him in this thread and many have been responding to me like support of Louisiana is attacking Georgia.

Though we all know a bad day in Louisiana is better than the beat day in Georgia.

You act like we should apologize for our natural resources.

You act like Louisiana is just sitting back and doing nothing. Besides oil and natural gas. there's tourism as a result of our culture, there's the port and railroad infrastructure we've worked very hard to build. Then there's the fishing industry, the film industry, and the emerging bio-medical industry.

The state isn't sitting on it's laurels, it's working very hard to diversify it's economy.

It's a great story. And it's ours.

???

Some people are still slowly moving back. People didnt leave because they were making less waiting tables or bartending, theyleft because the ccity was destroyed in a hurricane.

We pay the highest insurance rates in home and auto in the country. We get a terrible return on our taxes in public education and streets. Our public higher education in New Orleans has almost completely fell apart.

Look. I actually like living here and am merely playing devils advocate to your sunshine pumping and hope the states economy can improve as much as you think it will.

I think the energy industry makes it possible, but we lost a lot of what we had in the 60's to Houston, and I can see it happening again.
The film industry is probably not sustainable under the current model and is really more of something to brag about.
And you also have to consider the culture of political corruption that will probably frick us over again lile it has historically.

What you call negative, others may see as reality.

You started an economic thread in a SEC sports forum. It's an obvious troll.

Again, provide links where any other state has the equivalent "$84 billion in projects over the next few years" in other SE states.

Oh gee, maybe I should have started a reality show thread, or a hot mom thread instead. God forbid we talk about something that affects our everyday lives.

Again, wrong. That would be The Wire.

But let's steer this thread back towards Louisiana hatred.
