did he call out a single team? really stupid of bowlsby to do this when the big 12 has two schools currently being investigated

From the article:

He wants the federal government tied to NCAA "cheating"

quote:

“I am really not very far of being of the mind that some form of federal statute is not a good idea,” he said. “You could say it's against the law to influence where a student athlete would go to school, influence the outcome of a contest, to provide a benefit that is outside of the rules.”

Then his quote about the enforcement committee not meeting over a year

quote:

“[NCAA] enforcement is broken,” Bowlsby said. “The infractions committee hasn't had a hearing in almost a year, and I think it's not an understatement to say cheating pays presently.”

“They're [enforcement] in the battle with a BB gun in their hand,” he said. “They're fighting howitzers. We have to find a way to make progress on it. It undermines the confidence of the system.”

ETA: He's not calling out one specific conference or school. He's pulling the "they're all cheatin'" card. But he's certainly pissed that one of his is being investigated. And he probably just made it worse.

No doubt Bama. Auburn has to be thrown in there too.

LSU has been cited for major violations more recently than both of the 2 schools you mention. fwiw

Probably just still butthurt over A&M and Mizzou realizing there was a vastly superior conference out there and abandoning the abortion that is the Big 12

Well, you did have a basketball player points shave.

He's not wrong in that we all cheat. Some cheat better than others.

Well, Baylor and Oklahoma State have humiliated their cash cow (literally and figuratively) a lot lately...

Well, their may concern, is that the SEC is the lead dog and the view from the back is not good. They tried to dictate the number of conference games- didn't work. Hitched their wagon to LHN- second best. New bowl playoff-third best conference. When your pulling the rear, all you do is complain.

The teams that could leave that conference did so. It's dysfunctional and the LHN is an albatross. That enormous, ego-driven money grab destroyed the conference. And they know it. I am entertained by their whining.

Last thing I remember, (on the way out the door) was Bowelsby saying something about "Mizzou's not going anywhere" "they love it here" ...

Does no one pay any attention about what goes on outside of the SEC?

This was a not so thinly veiled shot at UNC's massive athletic/academic issue and the Miami fiasco...

Pretty simply he is saying that the NCAA wont investigate any more and if they do will run any time you threaten a lawsuit. He has point and I am starting to think that most fans are missing it. This system is great for the SEC because the latitude it allows.

As soon as the system disintegrates it is going to radically change everything about college sports. That may or may not be in the best interest of the SEC. Unintended consequences are a bitch and a radical readjustment of the current system we are all under will reach far and wide.

Yeah. About that...

I don't think that was Bowelsby though. I think that was the interim guy. They hired him and expected him to keep Mizzou in the conference. Epic fail on his part.

I don't know, that Howitzer comment makes me think it's all about A&M.

How many schools shoot off a Howitzer during football games, or ever?

Ok, it's a reach.
