I've been saying for years that the only thing that brings down the SEC is the SEC itself.

Think about it. Eventually we'll cannibalize ourselves and not have a team in the championship hunt.

At the same time we'll always be the best football conference in the land. But the streak will eventually end.

Can't remember. They'd just started allowing bare shoulders.

I'm not so sure about that. I can see losing a close NC game and ending the streak, but otherwise dominating the bowls. To me that's still dominance. But...

Nightmare scenario: You're a fan of the SEC team that makes it to the NC game and loses it, breaking the streak. Along with that being painful all on its own, you'd then have to listen to this crowd forever, without end. That would suck. A lot.

I agree with the idea that just because we lose the NC game or don't make one, it doesn't necessarily mean we're no longer the best conference. We've been having four or five teams finish in the top ten or just outside of it. Most conferences are just top heavy, with one or two teams being really good. The SEC is deep, having three to six teams being amazingly good.

The SEC won't be brought "down" until we no longer field the most great teams of any conference in the nation. Of course, everyone not affiliated with the SEC won't see it this way. The SEC has become Goliath, and people want to find any excuse they can to say it's overrated and too hyped.

I think what eventually brings the SEC down is world war 3....either that or world war 4.

Think of it this way. When the streak ends - the reaction will be like that of a Military Coup. The reaction to finally beating the SEC will be so strong that it will only add to the Legacy.

For the foreseeable future the SEC will be the dominant sports conference, if you consider all sports and not just football.

Cannibalism within the conference and SEC fatigue in the national media will probably keep the SEC out of a title game a few years in the next decade. I could easily see a scenario where you have an undefeated or 1 loss USC, OSU, FSU, and OU in the playoff with an 11-2 SEC champion at home. The SEC has been very fortunate that there have been very few major upsets in the SEC title game as well, but that could be a disaster with a 9-3 Georgia team beating an 11-1 LSU for example in the SEC title game.

Overall though, the SEC will always be the best football conference in the nation from here out due to the high school talent in the region.
